Albert Fathi
Albert Fathi (born 27 October 1951, in Egypt) is an Egyptian-French mathematician. He specializes in dynamical systems and is currently a professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Fathi attended the ''Collège des frères Lasalle'' in Cairo and grew up bilingual in French and Arabic. At age ten, he came as a political refugee to Paris and studied at the École normale supérieure in Saint-Cloud. He received in 1980 his PhD from the University of Paris 11 under Laurence Siebenmann with thesis ''Transformations et homéomorphismes préservant la mesure''. From 1987 to 1992 he was a professor at the University of Florida. Since 1992 he has taught at the École normale supérieure de Lyon (unit of pure and applied mathematics). Alessio Figalli
Alessio Figalli (; born 2 April 1984) is an Italian mathematician working primarily on calculus of variations and partial differential equations. He was awarded the Prix and in 2012, the EMS Prize in 2012, the Stampacchia Medal in 2015, the Feltrinelli Prize in 2017, and the Fields Medal in 2018. He was an invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians 2014. In 2016 he was awarded a European Research Council (ERC) grant, and in 2018 he received the Doctorate Honoris Causa from the Université Côte d'Azur. In 2019, he received the Doctorate Honoris Causa from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. Michael Shub
Michael Ira Shub (born August 17, 1943) is an American mathematician who has done research into dynamical systems and the complexity of real number algorithms. Biography Shub obtained his Ph.D. degree at the University of California, Berkeley with a thesis entitled '' Endomorphisms of Compact Differentiable Manifolds'' on 1967. His advisor was Stephen Smale. From 1967 to 1985 he worked at Brandeis University, the University of California, Santa Cruz and the Queens College at the City University of New York. From 1985 to 2004 he joined IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center. From 2004 to 2010 he worked at the University of Toronto. After 2010 he is a researcher at the University of Buenos Aires and at the City University of New York. Michael Herman (mathematician)
Michael Robert Herman (6 November 1942 – 2 November 2000) was a French American mathematician. He was one of the leading experts on the theory of dynamical systems. Born in New York City, he was educated in France. He was a student at École Polytechnique before being one of the first members of the Centre de Mathématiques created there by Laurent Schwartz. In 1976 he earned his PhD at the Paris-Sud 11 University, under supervision of Harold Rosenberg. He introduced Herman rings in 1979. Herman received the Salem Prize in 1976. He was an Invited Speaker of the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) in 1978 in Helsinki and the ICM in 1998 in Berlin. Jean-Christophe Yoccoz
Jean-Christophe Yoccoz (29 May 1957 – 3 September 2016) was a French mathematician. He was awarded a Fields Medal in 1994, for his work on dynamical systems. Biography Yoccoz attended the Lycée Louis-le-Grand, during which time he was a silver medalist at the 1973 International Mathematical Olympiad and a gold medalist in 1974. He entered the École Normale Supérieure in 1975, and completed an agrégation in mathematics in 1977. After completing military service in Brazil, he completed his PhD under Michael Herman in 1985 at Centre de mathématiques Laurent-Schwartz, which is a research unit jointly operated by the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and Ecole polytechnique. He took up a position at the University of Paris-Sud in 1987, and became a professor at the Collège de France in 1997, where he remained until his death. He was a member of Bourbaki. Valentin Poénaru
Valentin Alexandre Poénaru (born 1932 in Bucharest) is a Romanian–French mathematician. He was a Professor of Mathematics at University of Paris-Sud, specializing in low-dimensional topology.
