Albert Charles Joyce
Albert Charles Joyce CBE (22 May 18866 October 1973) was Commonwealth Auditor-General of Australia from 1946 to 1951. Biography Albert Charles Joyce was born on 22 May 1886 in Melbourne, Victoria, to Albert Samuel Joyce and Ellen (née Carne). On 20 February 1908 he married Elsie Spicer and had 4 sons and two daughters. One son died in 1944 over Germany while serving with the RAAF. Albert Joyce began working at the Auditor-General's office of the Public Service in 1903. He also worked for the PMG, the Department of Defence and the Department of the Treasury. He served as Auditor-General from 1946 to 1951. He was a member of Rotary and the Masonic Lodge. James Brophy (Public Servant)
James Brophy (26 September 188924 May 1969) was a public servant who was Commonwealth Auditor-General between 1951 and 1955. Biography James Brophy was born on 26 September 1889 in South Melbourne, Victoria eldest child of Richard Brophy, labourer, and his wife Catherine, née Mackey, both from Ireland. On 14 January 1922 he married Elizabeth Constance Ridley at St Brigid's Catholic Church, Red Hill, Brisbane. They had ten children. She died in 1965. They moved to Melbourne, Victoria in 1927 and to Canberra in 1930. He was appointed Papal Knight-Commander of the Order of St. Gregory the Great in 1951 by Pope Pius XII. He was awarded the Companion of the Imperial Service Order in the Queen’s birthday honours list in 1954. He was a life member of the NSW Hockey Association, NSW Junior Hockey Association, ACT Hockey Association and the NSW Amateur Swimming Association. Ralph Abercrombie (19 July 18813 May 1957) was an Australian public servant who was Commonwealth Auditor-General from 1938 to 1946. Biography Ralph Abercrombie CBE was born on 19 July 1881 at Mount Duneed, Victoria, Australia, the ninth child of Scottish born Andrew Thomson Abercrombie, the first headmaster of Mount Duneed State School and his English wife Mary Anna (née Kenshole). He was the director of navy accounts and finance and civil member of the Naval Board. He joined the Navy Department in 1911 from the Victorian State Treasury. He was in charge of navy finance and accounting matters during World War 1.
