Ralph Abercrombie (public Servant)
Ralph Abercrombie (19 July 18813 May 1957) was an Australian public servant who was Commonwealth Auditor-General from 1938 to 1946. Biography Ralph Abercrombie CBE was born on 19 July 1881 at Mount Duneed, Victoria, Australia, the ninth child of Scottish born Andrew Thomson Abercrombie, the first headmaster of Mount Duneed State School and his English wife Mary Anna (née Kenshole). He was the director of navy accounts and finance and civil member of the Naval Board. He joined the Navy Department in 1911 from the Victorian State Treasury. He was in charge of navy finance and accounting matters during World War 1. In 1923 the Government sent him to England on a special mission connected with the settlement of accounts associated with the repatriation of Australian troops. Albert Charles Joyce CBE (22 May 18866 October 1973) was Commonwealth Auditor-General of Australia from 1946 to 1951. Biography Albert Charles Joyce was born on 22 May 1886 in Melbourne, Victoria, to Albert Samuel Joyce and Ellen (née Carne). On 20 February 1908 he married Elsie Spicer and had 4 sons and two daughters. One son died in 1944 over Germany while serving with the RAAF. Herbert Charles Brown (public Servant)
Herbert Charles Brown (18741940) was a senior Australian public servant best known for his time as Commonwealth Auditor-General in the late 1930s. Life and career Brown was born in 1874, and joined the New South Wales public service in 1891. Brown served for 12-years in the Postmaster-General's Department, before joining the Department of Home Affairs. He then became an Assistant Secretary in the Department of Works and Railways, then a chief clerk and accountant in the Prime Minister's Department. In 1928, Brown was appointed Secretary of the Department of Markets. He became Secretary of the expanded Department of Markets and Transport at the end of that year. Brown was Secretary of the Department of Transport between 1930 and 1932. Mount Duneed, Victoria
Mount Duneed is a suburb of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. It is divided between the City of Greater Geelong and Surf Coast Shire local government areas. Mount Duneed itself is an extinct volcano and the remains of the crater can be seen in the Mount Duneed Recreation Reserve. Much of the locality north of Lower Duneed Road is part of the large Armstrong Creek Growth Area, which was opened up for urban development from 2010.
