Al Maya
AlMaya It is a coastal area located in the northwest of Libya, about 27 km west of the capital Tripoli , Almaya follows Maamoura, Tina, Qaraqouzah and Tuwaybiyah. Almaya forms a municipality. Rebels then later seized control of Maya, one resident saying that government forces put up "a brief fight" at the village, leaving behind a burned-out tank, and some cars that had been torched. Municipalities Of Libya
The ''Baladiyah'' (singular), or ''baladiyat'' (plural), is the current second-level administration subdivision of Libya being reintroduced in 2012 by the General National Congress with Law 59 on the system of local administration, dividing the country into governorates (''muhafazat'') and districts (''baladiyat''), with baladiyah having local councils. ''Baladiyah'' is an Arabic word used in many Arab countries to denote administrative divisions of a country. History Baladiyat were first introduced in Libya in 1983 to replace the governorate system. The ten existing governorates were replaced with forty-six baladiyat, but in 1988 that number was reduced to twenty-five baladiyat. In 1995 they were replaced by ''shabiyat''. For Libya, the baladiyat are usually known in English as "districts" and sometimes as "municipalities", but the municipal level under the baladiyat and subsequent shabiyat systems was the Basic People's Congress. The First Libyan Civil War was an armed conflict in 2011 in the North African country of Libya that was fought between forces loyal to Colonel Muammar Gaddafi and rebel groups that were seeking to oust Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, his government. It erupted with the Libyan Revolution, also known as the 17 February Revolution. The war was preceded by protests in Zawiya, Libya, Zawiya on 8 August 2009 and finally ignited by protests in Benghazi beginning on Tuesday, 15 February 2011, which led to clashes with security forces who fired on the crowd.
