Al-Firqa Al-Thalitha
Quwat Salahaddin ( ar, قوات صلاح الدين, lit=''Salahaddin Forces'') was an Iraqi football team based in Habbaniyah which competed in the Iraq Central FA League from the 1962–63 season until the 1972–73 season. They also competed in Iraq's first national football league in the 1973–74 season. History Quwat Salahaddin were founded as Al-Firqa Al-Thalitha ( ar, الفرقة الثالثة, lit=''Third Division'') and were originally based in Baqubah before moving to Habbaniyah. Al-Firqa Al-Thalitha won the Iraq Central FA League on one occasion in 1965–66 and also won the Iraq Central FA Perseverance Cup on two occasions in 1963 and 1966. Iraqi National League (Institutions)
The 1973–74 Iraqi National First Division was a football tournament organised by the Iraq Football Association (IFA) in the 1973–74 season, which was formed as the top-tier national league in Iraq to replace the Iraq Central FA League and the Basra, Kirkuk and Mosul leagues. The tournament began on 11 October 1973. Matches that ended in a draw were settled via penalty shootout (with no extra time), with the winner of the shootout earning one point. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya won the league title with a total of 23 points, and they also won the regional Iraq FA Baghdad Cup knockout tournament in the same season, led by coach Abdelilah Mohammed Hassan. 1966 Iraq Central FA Perseverance Cup
The 1966 Iraq Central FA Perseverance Cup was the 5th and final edition of the Iraq Central FA Perseverance Cup. The match was contested between the winners and runners-up of the 1965–66 edition of the Iraq Central FA Premier League, Al-Firqa Al-Thalitha and Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya respectively. Al-Firqa Al-Thalitha won the game 1–0 with a goal by Gorgis Ismail to win the cup for the second time in their history. During the match, the ball went outside the field and was lost. 1969–70 Iraq Central FA Premier League
The 1969–70 Iraq Central FA Premier League was the 22nd season of the Iraq Central FA League (the top division of football in Baghdad and its neighbouring cities from 1948 to 1973). Eleven teams competed in the tournament, which was played in a single round-robin format rather than a double round-robin format, so each team only played each other once, and Aliyat Al-Shorta won the league title for the third time. At an Iraqi Olympic Committee meeting on 4 February 1971, it was decided that champions Aliyat Al-Shorta would be Iraq's representative at the 1971 Asian Champion Club Tournament, thus becoming the first Iraqi team to participate in a major continental club competition. 1963–64 Iraq Central FA First Division
The 1963–64 Iraq Central FA First Division was the 16th season of the Iraq Central FA League (the top division of football in Baghdad and its neighbouring cities from 1948 to 1973). Prior to the season, Aliyat Al-Shorta won promotion by beating Al-Omma 3–1 after extra time on 29 June 1963. The tournament started on 31 October 1963, and the winners of the league were Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya who earned their third title. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya's Amer Jameel and Ammo Baba won the top scorer and best player awards respectively. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya also beat Al-Firqa Al-Thalitha 3–0 in the Iraq Central FA Altruism Cup on 25 May 1964. The National Olympic Committee of Iraq (NOCI) ( ar, اللجنة الاولمبية الوطنية العراقية) is the National Olympic Committee (NOC) for Iraq. It was established in 1948 and recognized by the International Olympic Committee that same year. It was officially dissolved in May 2003 by L. Paul Bremer under Coalition Provisional Authority Order Number 2. but was reestablished in February 2004 with the assistance of the International Olympic Committee. Its current Director General is Tiras Odisho an ethnic Assyrian Christian, a Karate expert and coach, based in Sweden. The committee organizes the Iraqi participation in the Olympic Games, choose the participants and run the training program. Iraqi Premier League
The Iraqi Premier League ( ar, الدوري العراقي الممتاز) is the top level of the Iraqi football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA) and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Iraq Division One. The league was formed by the IFA in 1974 as the Iraqi National Clubs First Division, the first nationwide league of clubs in Iraq. The current format sees 20 teams playing 38 matches each (playing each team in the league twice, home and away), totalling 380 matches in the season. Of the 80 teams to have competed since the inception of the league in 1974, eleven have won the title. Al-Zawraa are the most successful club with 14 titles, followed by Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Al-Talaba and Al-Shorta, who together contest the Baghdad derbies.
