Ahmad Ibrahim (Singaporean Politician)
Ahmad bin Ibrahim (17 May 1927 – 21 August 1962) was a Singaporean politician who served as Minister of Health between 1959 and 1961, and Minister for Labour from 1961 until his death in 1962, in the First Cabinet of Singapore. An active unionist, Ahmad was first elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Sembawang as an independent candidate in the 1955 general election. Biography Born in Penang, Ahmad attended Penang Free School. Ahmad contested in Sembawang as an independent candidate during the 1955 general election and won. A former First Branch Secretary of the All-Singapore Fire Brigade Employees Union and Vice-President of the Naval Base Labour Union, Ahmad was co-opted into the People's Action Party's Central Executive Committee in 1956. During the 1959 general election, he was re-elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly as a PAP candidate. Yishun
Yishun, formerly known as Nee Soon, is a residential town located in the northeastern corner of the North Region of Singapore, bordering Simpang and Sembawang to the north, Mandai to the west, the Central Water Catchment to its southwest, Ang Mo Kio to its south, as well as Seletar and Sengkang to its east and southeast respectively. Masjid Ahmad Ibrahim
Masjid Ahmad Ibrahim, or Ahmad Ibrahim Mosque is a mosque in Singapore located at Jalan Ulu Seletar off Sembawang Road in front of Springside housing estate. History Masjid Ahmad Ibrahim was built in 1955 and sits on a Temporary Occupation License (TOL) land. It was then known as Surau Nee Soon Jalan Ulu Seletar and its first Imam was Imam Hj Katsir. In 1959, Ahmad Ibrahim, Member of Parliament for Sembawang Nee Soon and Labour Minister, helped upgrade and improve the facilities of the surau. In 1961, the surau was upgraded to the status of a Masjid to meet the growing number of Muslims in the area. In a vote for a change of name for the Masjid, the name of Ahmad Ibrahim was chosen to recognise his contributions to the Masjid. The first Friday prayers was held soon after in that year. Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary School (AISS) is a co-educational government secondary school in Singapore. Founded in 1962, it was the second integrated school to be established in Singapore. Boon Lay
Boon Lay (, ta, பூன் லே) is a neighbourhood located in the town of Jurong West in the West Region of Singapore. Its borders very roughly correspond to the URA subzone of Boon Lay Place, situated within the Jurong West Planning Area. The subzone was named after Chew Boon Lay (), a prominent businessman in the late 19th century and early 20th century who owned the land where the precinct stands. When a requisition of of land from his estate was done by the war department of the then colonial government of Singapore, it led to the growth of Boon Lay Village in the 1940s, with a population of about 420 in the early 1960s. Singapore General Hospital (SGH) is an academic health science centre and tertiary referral hospital in Singapore. It is located next to the Bukit Merah and Chinatown districts of the Central Region, close to the Outram Community Hospital (OCH), which functions as a supplementary community and rehabilitation hospital to SGH for newly-discharged patients.
