Yishun
Yishun, formerly known as Nee Soon, is a residential town located in the northeastern corner of the North Region of Singapore, bordering Simpang and Sembawang to the north, Mandai to the west, the Central Water Catchment to its southwest, Ang Mo Kio to its south, as well as Seletar and Sengkang to its east and southeast respectively. Etymology The name Yishun () is the Mandarin Chinese equivalent of "Nee Soon", the given name of Lim Nee Soon ( Chinese: ), a prominent industrialist who made his fortune from the rubber and pineapple plantations he had in the area. Yishun planning area is divided into sub-zones namely Khatib, Lower Seletar, Nee Soon, North Land, Springleaf, Yishun Central, Yishun East, Yishun South and Yishun West. Khatib MRT Station
Khatib MRT station is an above-ground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North South line (NSL) in Yishun, Singapore. The station is located at the junction of Yishun Ring Road and Yishun Avenue 2, and is one of the two stations that currently serve Yishun New Town; the other being Yishun station. The section of tracks between this station and Yio Chu Kang station is the longest between any two stations on the MRT network. History Formerly named Nee Soon South, it was renamed to Khatib in January 1987 after Sungei Khatib Bongsu, a river nearby, and a military base nearby, along with Yishun station which was initially named Nee Soon. North Region, Singapore
The North Region of Singapore is one of the five regions in the city-state. The region is the second largest region in terms of land area, and has a population of 582,330. Woodlands is the regional centre and also the most populous town with 255,130 residents living in the area. Comprising 13,500 hectares of land area, it includes eight planning areas. The relative isolation of the area from the Downtown Core meant relatively belated urban development and the greater abundance of natural greenery. Sembawang
Sembawang is a planning area and residential town located in the North Region of Singapore. Sembawang planning area is bordered by Simpang to the east, Mandai to the south, Yishun to the southeast, Woodlands to the west and the Straits of Johor to the north. Despite the relatively large development in the Sembawang New Town, the area remains largely suburban, with military, industrial and recreational facilities at its periphery. It hosted a major naval base and port facilities since the early 20th century, and continues to handle regular shipping traffic today along its wharves. Lower Seletar Reservoir
Lower Seletar Reservoir (Chinese: 实里达蓄水池下段 ; ms, Takungan Air Seletar Bawah) is a reservoir located in the northern part of Singapore, to the east of Yishun New Town. The reservoir has a surface area of 3.6 km², and a capacity of 9.5 million m³. The mean depth of the reservoir is 2 m, with a maximum depth of 5.5 m. The shoreline length is 14.3 km. History Lower Seletar Reservoir was constructed under the Sungei Seletar/Bedok Water Scheme, completed in 1986. The scheme involved the damming of Sungei Seletar to form Lower Seletar Reservoir, the creation of Bedok Reservoir from a former sand quarry and the construction of Bedok Waterworks. Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim
Muhammad Faishal bin Ibrahim Khan Surattee ( Jawi: محمد فااشال إبراهيم; born 16 June 1968) is a Singaporean politician who has been serving as Minister of State for Home Affairs and Minister of State for National Development concurrently since 2020. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he has been the Member of Parliament representing the Nee Soon Central division of Nee Soon GRC since 2011. Before entering politics, Faishal was an associate professor at the National University of Singapore's Department of Real Estate. Simpang, is a planning area located in the North Region of Singapore. The word ''Simpang'' means junction or intersection in Malay. Louis Ng Kok Kwang ( zh, s=黄国光, p=Huáng Guóguāng; born 8 December 1978) is a Singaporean politician, animal and environmental activist. Carrie Tan Huimin ( zh, s=陈浍敏, p=Chén Huìmǐn; born 1982) is a Singaporean politician. New Towns Of Singapore
The new towns of Singapore are planned communities located across Singapore that are designed to be self contained. Designed to house up to 300,000 residents, these new towns contain areas zoned for housing, recreation and employment, and are composed of multiple neighbourhoods, each of which is further subdivided into multiple precincts. Amenities in these new towns are provided through a multi-tiered system, and based on Housing and Development Board (HDB) guidelines. As of 2022, the country has 24 new towns. Planning Areas Of Singapore
Planning areas, also known as DGP areas or DGP zones, are the main urban planning and census divisions of Singapore delineated by the Urban Redevelopment Authority. There are a total of 55 of these areas, organised into Regions of Singapore, five regions. A Development Guide Plan is then drawn up for each planning area, providing for detailed planning guidelines for every individual plot of land throughout the country. The planning areas were first introduced in the early 1990s after the release of the 1991 Concept Plan.
