Agryz
Agryz (russian: Агры́з; tt-Cyrl, Әгерҗе, ''Ägerce'') is a town and the administrative center of Agryzsky District in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia, located on the Izh River (Volga's basin), east of Kazan. As of the 2010 Census, its population was 19,300. History It was founded as a settlement serving the construction of the Kazan–Yekaterinburg railway. It was granted town status on August 28, 1938. Agryzsky District
Agryzsky District (russian: Агрызский райо́н; tt-Cyrl, Әгерҗе районы, ''Ägerce rayonı'') is a territorial administrative unit and municipality of the Republic of Tatarstan within the Russian Federation. The district is located in the northeast of the republic on the bank of the Izh River and occupies an area of 1796.6 square kilometers (about 693.6 sq mi). According to the 2010 census, the municipality had a population of 36,848. The main city of Agryz accounts for 52.7% of the district's total population and is located 304 km east of Kazan and 36 km from Izhevsk. The settlement of Agryz first appeared in historical records in 1646. After the suppression of Pugachev's uprising in 1775, Agryz became part of the Sarapulsky county (uyezd) within the Vyatka province. Asaf Kutdusovich Abdrakhmanov (russian: Аса́ф Кутду́сович Абдрахма́нов tt-Cyrl, Асаф Котдус улы Габдерахманов ; 20 December 1918 — 3 September 2000) was a Soviet naval officer awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union during World War II. Early life Abdrakhmanov was born on 20 December 1918 in Agryz to a Volga Tatar family. He grew up in a village in Agryzsky District and after graduating from junior high school and the Aviation Technical School in Kazan, Abdrakhmanov worked as a technician at an aircraft factory. Military career Abdrakhmanov joined the Soviet Navy in 1939 and in 1942 he graduated from the Higher Naval College. After finishing training, Lieutenant Abdrakhmanov joined the Black Sea Fleet and served aboard Motor boats. The title Hero of the Soviet Union (russian: Герой Советского Союза, translit=Geroy Sovietskogo Soyuza) was the highest distinction in the Soviet Union, awarded together with the Order of Lenin personally or collectively for heroic feats in service to the Soviet state and society.
