Afaese Manoa (born 1942 in Tuvalu) is a Tuvaluan writer and musician. National anthem of Tuvalu Afaese Manoa is the author of words and music to an anthem, ''Tuvalu mo te Atua'' (''Tuvalu for the Almighty''), in the Tuvaluan language. In 1978, the year of Tuvalu's independence from the United Kingdom, Manoa's anthem lyrics and music were adopted as the national anthem of Tuvalu. Reputation as writer Manoa is the best-known writer in a language which has relatively little literature. Tuvaluan (), often called Tuvalu, is a Polynesian language closely related to the Ellicean group spoken in Tuvalu. It is more or less distantly related to all other Polynesian languages, such as Hawaiian, Māori, Tahitian, Samoan, Tokelauan and Tongan, and most closely related to the languages spoken on the Polynesian Outliers in Micronesia and Northern and Central Melanesia. Joanne Gobure
Joanne Ekamdeiya Gobure (born April 26, 1982 in Nauru) is a Nauruan poet. Biography Gobure was born in Denigomodu and settled in a district of Uaboe. Gobure is the cousin of Nauruan tennis player Chris Gobure, who played in the South Pacific Games with Paner Baguga and others. She attended schools of Nibok, Aiwo and Yaren and graduated with the Nauru Junior Certificate. Since 2003, Gobure has worked mainly as a teacher at Nauru College, at Aiwo. She was employed by the director of the school, Richard Lewis, and by the education minister, Baron D. Waqa, as an IT teacher. Although she has not finished college education course, she is studying at the local campus of the University of South Pacific (USP). She mainly provides training to work with Microsoft Office.
