Adrian Thorpe (diplomat)
Adrian Charles Thorpe (born in Cambridge) is a British retired ambassador. Thorpe was educated at The Leys School, Cambridge, and Christ's College, Cambridge, and entered the diplomatic service in 1965. He was the British Ambassador to the Philippines from 1995 to 1998, and Ambassador to Mexico from 1999 to 2002. Dame Denise Mary Holt, DCMG (née Mills; born 1 October 1949, Vienna, Austria) was British Ambassador to Mexico (2002–05) and Spain and Andorra (2007–09). Adrian is a form of the Latin given name Adrianus or Hadrianus. Its ultimate origin is most likely via the former river Adria from the Venetic and Illyrian word ''adur'', meaning "sea" or "water".
