Adrian Hong
Adrian Hong Chang (b. 1983 or 1984 in Tijuana), is an activist of Korean descent, U.S. residence, and Mexican citizenship, notable for his human rights activism, and leadership in a North Korean provisional government based in Los Angeles. Hong serves as managing director of the political group Free Joseon and was previously head of Pegasus Strategies LLC, "a strategic advisory firm." His commentary calling attention to North Korean human rights abuses has been published in many American newspapers and magazines, including The Christian Science Monitor. He is a co-founder of the Street Symphony, a classical music group based in Los Angeles. Early life and education Hong's father, Joseph, was a Christian missionary and taekwondo champion, who immigrated to Tijuana, B.C., Mexico. Raid On North Korea's Embassy In Madrid
The North Korean Embassy in Madrid incident is an event that occurred on 22 February 2019 at the North Korean embassy in Madrid, Spain. The political group Free Joseon, which is opposed to the incumbent Kim Jong Un regime of North Korea, is alleged to have attacked and raided the embassy, while the group maintains that they were invited in to facilitate a high-level defection. A group of individuals stole mobile telephones, two pen drives and a hard drive from the embassy and handed them to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States. The event took place after the Singapore summit between North Korea (DPRK) and the United States and prior to the approach of the Hanoi summit. As of early April 2019, one person had been arrested in connection with the incident and two international arrest warrants had been issued by the Spanish Audiencia Nacional. Ahn Changho
Ahn Changho, sometimes An Chang-ho (; , November 9, 1878 – March 10, 1938) was a Korean independence activist and one of the early leaders of the Korean-American immigrant community in the United States. He is also referred to by his pen name Dosan (도산; 島山 ). A Protestant social activist, he established the Shinminhoe (New Korea Society) when he returned to Korea from the US in 1907. It was the most important organization to fight the Japanese occupation of Korea. He established the Young Korean Academy (흥사단; 興士團) in San Francisco in 1913 and was a key member in the founding of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai in 1919. Ahn is one of two men believed to have written the lyrics of "Aegukga", the South Korean national anthem. Phillip Buck
Reverend Phillip Jun Buck is a Korean-American Christian missionary for Assemblies of God Korean District and an advocate for human rights in North Korea. In 2007, he won the Civil Courage Prize for his work on behalf of North Korean refugees. Early life Buck was born in South Hwanghae Province, Ongjin County, Korea, Empire of Japan in 1941. He was separated from his family during the Korean War and fled to South Korea in the 1950s. He later attended Han Sae University, receiving a Bachelor's and Master's in theology. In 1982, he immigrated to Seattle, Washington in the US, and became a naturalized US citizen in 1989. The human rights record of North Korea is often considered to be the worst in the world and has been globally condemned, with the United Nations, the European Union and groups such as Human Rights Watch all critical of the country's record.
