Adrian Brown (archivist)
Adrian Brown (born 1969) is a British archivist specializing in digital records preservation. He led development of the widely used PRONOM file format registry and associated DROID software tool. He is the author of ''Practical Digital Preservation: A How-To Guide for Organizations of Any Size'' (2013). Career Adrian Brown was born in 1969 in London, England. He attended Durham University, and in 1991 graduated with a BA in Medieval Literature. He became a professional archaeological excavator, and participated in several projects at sites in the United Kingdom. In 1994 he joined the English Heritage Centre for Archaeology in Portsmouth as an assistant records manager. He was promoted to information manager and then to head of information management and collections. He became involved in the field of long-term digital preservation, and in 2000 published a digital archiving strategy for English Heritage, which he used as the basis for developing the digital archiving infrastructure ... PRONOM
PRONOM (Public Record Office and Chữ Nôm, Nôm 喃) is a World Wide Web, web-based technical registry to support digital preservation services, developed by The National Archives (UK), The National Archives of the United Kingdom. PRONOM was the first and remains, to date, the only operational public file format registry in the world, although the "Magic File" repository of the File (command), File Command has served this role in a less formal capacity for two decades. Other projects to develop technical registries, including the UK Digital Curation Centre's Representation Information Registry, and the Global Digital Format Registry project at Harvard University, are now in progress. UK Web Archive
The UK Web Archive is a consortium of the six UK legal deposit libraries which aims to collect all UK websites at least once each year. History In 2005, the British Library, The National Archives, Wellcome Trust, National Library of Scotland, National Library of Wales and JISC formed the UK Web Archiving Consortium, a project to archive websites. UKWAC archived selected websites by licence or permission, using PANDAS software developed by the National Library of Australia. During the project its members collected sites relevant to their interest; the Wellcome Library collected medical sites, the national libraries sites that reflect life in contemporary Wales or Scotland. The British Library worked with a broad policy of collecting sites of cultural, historical and political importance to the UK. The Consortium wound up in 2010. The International Records Management Trust
The International Records Management Trust was a United Kingdom-based charity, established in 1989 by Dr Anne Thurston, OBE, to develop new strategies for managing records and information.
