Admiral's Voyage
Admiral's Voyage (1959-1989) was an American thoroughbred horse that was bred and raced by Fred W. Hooper. Admiral's Voyage won 12 out of his 52 starts during four seasons of racing, earning a total of $455,879. As a three-year-old, Admiral's Voyage won the Wood Memorial and the Louisiana Derby, finished 9th to winner Decidedly in the 1962 Kentucky Derby and was a runner-up to Jaipur in the 1962 Belmont Stakes. The colt was then sent to race in California where he won the Los Feliz and San Miguel Stakes. Crafty Admiral
Crafty Admiral (June 6, 1948 – 1972) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who was the 1952 American Champion Older Male Horse and Leading broodmare sire in North America in 1978. Background A very late foal, Crafty Admiral's dam, Admiral's Lady, died after producing the colt. He was purchased for $6,500 as a yearling by Hugh Grant at a special auction of Harry Guggenheim horses held in the paddock at Belmont Park. In late 1951, Grant sold him to Charles and Frances Cohen, a husband-and-wife team who raced under the name of Charfran Stable. Racing career Crafty Admiral set a new track record for seven furlongs in winning the 1952 Palm Beach Handicap at Hialeah Park Race Track. San Carlos Handicap
The San Carlos Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race once held during the third week of February at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California, but now run in March. The Grade II stakes race is open to horses, aged three and up, willing to race seven furlongs on the dirt and currently offers a purse of $200,000. Inaugurated in 1935 as the San Carlos Handicap, it was raced at a distance of miles through 1939. It was run in both January and December 1949. It became known as the San Carlos Stakes beginning with its 2012 running. It wasn't raced due to World War II between 1942 and 1945. War Admiral
War Admiral (May 2, 1934 – October 30, 1959) was a champion American Thoroughbred racehorse who is the fourth winner of the American Triple Crown. He was also the 1937 Horse of the Year and well known as the rival of Seabiscuit in the 'Match Race of the Century' in 1938. War Admiral won 21 of his 26 starts with earnings of $273,240 and was the leading sire in North America for 1945. He was also an outstanding broodmare sire whose influence is still felt today in descendants such as Triple Crown winners American Pharoah and Justify. Marguerite (April 24, 1920 – October 27, 1945) was an American Thoroughbred racemare owned by Belair Stud who had to be retired after only one start but who established her place in racing history as the dam of four significant runners. A broodmare's place in racing history A 1946 ''Daily Racing Form'' article lamented the fact that when a sire of one or more outstanding runners dies there will be much written about that stallion in country's all over the world. Conversely, when a mare who has produced similar such successful offspring, scant little will be reported on her accomplishment. Sir Gallahad
Sir Gallahad (1920–1949) was a French Thoroughbred racehorse and an extremely important sire in the United States. Racing career Racing at age two in France for his British breeder/owner, Jefferson Davis Cohn, Sir Gallahad earned victory in three of his five starts but was overshadowed by the 1922 Champion colt, Epinard. At age three, he won four races, most notably the French 2,000 Guineas (Poule d'Essai des Poulains). At four, he won three important races in France and in England won the Lincolnshire Handicap. That year, he also went head-to-head with Epinard, winning a 6½ furlong event. Leading Sire Sir Gallahad was retired after his four-year-old season to stand at stud at Haras du Bois-Roussel in Alençon. Danzig (February 12, 1977 – January 4, 2006) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who is best known as a leading sire. He was purchased for $310,000 (equivalent to $ million in ) by Henryk de Kwiatkowski at the 1978 Saratoga Yearling Sale. The son of Hall of Famer Northern Dancer and the most commercially successful sire of the second half of the 20th century, he won all three of his races before knee problems ended his racing career. Stud record Danzig was retired to stand at stud at Claiborne Farm near Paris, Kentucky, where he became one of the world's most important sires. Northern Dancer
Northern Dancer (May 27, 1961 – November 16, 1990) was a Thoroughbred who, in 1964, became the first Canadian-bred horse to win the Kentucky Derby. He then became one of the most successful sires of the 20th century. He is considered a Canadian icon and was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 1965. Jaipur (horse)
Jaipur (April 8, 1959 – July 27, 1987) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the 1962 Belmont Stakes and was voted that year's U.S. Eclipse Award for Outstanding 3-Year-Old Male Horse. Jaipur was a son of Nasrullah out of the mare Rare Perfume, whose sire was Eight Thirty. He was bred by George D. Widener, Jr.'s Erdenheim Farm. As a yearling, Jaipur was broken and exercised by soon-to-be jockey Michael Tornambe, who was the first person to ride the colt. He was also under the care of farm manager Ralph Delaney. Trained by future U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Bert Mulholland, Jaipur won ten of his nineteen races, including the 1962 Belmont, Withers, and Travers Stakes while ridden by Willie Shoemaker.
