Before Eurovision Festival da Canção 1986 The Portuguese national final to select their entry, the ''Festival RTP da Canção 1986'', was held on 22 March at the Rádio e Televisão de Portugal Studios in Lisbon, and was hosted by Henrique Mendes and Maria Helena Fialho Gouveia, who hosted the very first Portuguese Contest in 1964. Mendes and Fialho Gouveia introduced and made light commentary on the songs, which were taped in advance for the television audience. Each television region in Portugal (Ponta Delgada, Funchal, Porto and Lisbon) submitted three songs for this year's Festival. An "expert" jury decided the winner, and only the placement of the top three songs were made public. Maria Guinot (20 June 1945 – 3 November 2018) was a Portuguese singer, best known for her participation in the 1984 Eurovision Song Contest. Biography Born in Barreiro, Portugal, Guinot released two EPs, "La mère sans enfant" and "Balada do negro só" in the late 1960s, then took a long break from the music industry. She returned in 1981 performing a song, "Um adeus, um recomeço", in the Portuguese Eurovision selection, ''Festival da Canção'', where she finished third. Her second attempt in ''Festival da Cançao'' came in 1984, when her song " Silêncio e tanta gente" ("Silence and So Many People") emerged the winner. José Albano Cid de Ferreira Tavares (born 4 February 1942) is a Portuguese singer, composer and record producer. Internationally, Cid is best known for his 1978 progressive rock album'' 10,000 Anos Depois Entre Vénus e Marte'' and for representing Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest 1980 with the song " Um grande, grande amor".
