Portugal was present at the Eurovision Song Contest 1986, held in Bergen, Norway. Before Eurovision Festival da Canção 1986 The Portuguese national final to select their entry, the ''Festival RTP da Canção 1986'', was held on 22 March at the Rádio e Televisão de Portugal Studios in Lisbon, and was hosted by Henrique Mendes and Maria Helena Fialho Gouveia, who hosted the very first Portuguese Contest in 1964. Mendes and Fialho Gouveia introduced and made light commentary on the songs, which were taped in advance for the television audience. Each television region in Portugal (Ponta Delgada, Funchal, Porto and Lisbon) submitted three songs for this year's Festival. An "expert" jury decided the winner, and only the placement of the top three songs were made public. Dora Maria Reis Dias de Jesus (born 20 May 1966 in Lisbon) is a retired Portuguese singer. She represented Portugal twice at the Eurovision Song Contest. Henrique Mendes
Henrique Mendes (January 2, 1931 – July 8, 2004) was a Portuguese television presenter and actor, he is best known for hosting several editions of Festival da Canção. Mendes joint Rádio Renascença in 1950 as a radio announcer and in 1958 he joint RTP and was invited to join as a television presenter by Artur Agostinho and he became known in Portugal for hosting Festival da Canção (Portuguese heats for the Eurovision Song Contest), which he hosted from 1964 until 1968, again in 1972 and again in 1986, in addition the latter also commentated on the Eurovision Song Contest for Portugal between 1965 and 1967 and again from 1969 until 1972.
