Adelaide Adrenaline (Women)
The Adelaide Rush is a women's ice hockey team in the Australian Women's Ice Hockey League, which is the highest level national competition in Australia. The team is based in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. History Before the AWIHL The Adelaide Assassins were one of the four founding teams in the Australian Women's Ice Hockey League, which officially began in 2007 after two showcase season were held previously. As the Assassins, Adelaide won both the 2005–06 Showcase Series and the 2006–07 Showcase Series. AWIHL The newly formed Australian Women's Ice Hockey League had its inaugural season in the 2007–08 season, where the Adelaide Assassins would again win the championship. Australian Women's Ice Hockey League
The Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League (AWIHL) is Australia, Australia’s top-tier women’s ice hockey league. Established in 2005 as Australia’s first women’s national league, the AWIHL has amateur sports, amateur status and is sanctioned by Ice Hockey Australia (a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation). Goodall Cup
The Goodall Cup is a perpetual trophy that is, currently, annually awarded to the playoff champions of the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL). The trophy is named after Australian born player John Edwin Goodall who originally donated the cup. The Goodall Cup was originally gifted to the Inter-State Series, which was an annual 3 game series held between state teams, representing a selection of the best available players in each state. It was the championship trophy awarded to the first team to win 2 out of the 3 games in the Inter-State Series, that team would remain in possession of the cup until the following tournament. Brown Trophy
The Jim Brown Shield is currently an annually awarded interstate ice hockey championship trophy in Australia for senior men aged 17 years and older with the condition that players of the Australian Ice Hockey League that are 24 years and older must have played less than 6 games to remain eligible. The current trophy is in the form of a shield and is the third trophy to bear the Brown family name. The trophy is named after Scottish born James Archibald Brown. Australian Junior Ice Hockey League
The Australian Junior Ice Hockey League (AJIHL) is an elite amateur national ice hockey league in Australia, open to players 20 years of age or younger. History The Australian Junior Ice Hockey League was first announced on 18 September 2012 by Ice Hockey Australia. The inaugural season consisted of four teams – Melbourne Blackhawks, Melbourne Red Wings, Sydney Lightning and the Sydney Maple Leafs, with teams being operated by their respective state governing body. Joan McKowen Memorial Trophy
The Joan McKowen Memorial Trophy is the annually awarded championship trophy, of the Australian Women's Ice Hockey League (AWIHL), to the winner of the AWIHL finals. Originally donated in 1995, the trophy is named after Joan McKowen who died September 15, 1992 and her husband Maxwell McKowen died in 2010. This trophy originated from a women's ice hockey championship tournament that started in 1994, which was a competition that was hosted in Queensland between a New South Wales team and a Queensland team competing. This invitational Women's tournament was just the beginning and saw the New South Wales team winning the championship. 2018–19 AWIHL Season
The 2018–19 AWIHL season is the 12th season of the Australian Women's Ice Hockey League (AWIHL). It ran from 27 October 2018 until 10 March 2019. Five teams competed in 30 regular season games followed by 4 playoff games, making up the AWIHL Finals weekend. The Melbourne Ice claimed the double by winning both the premiership title for finishing top of the regular season standings and the Joan McKowen Memorial Trophy championship title by winning the grand final. Sydney Sirens finished runner-up to both titles and the Adelaide Rush claimed the wooden spoon. Teams In 2018–19 the AWIHL had five teams from five Australian state capital cities competing, stretching east to west of the continent. The 2015–16 AWIHL season is the ninth season of the Australian Women's Ice Hockey League. It will run from 24 October 2015 until 24 January 2016. League business On Monday, 13 July 2015 it was announced that this season will see changes to the import rules, which were as follows: 1. Anyone that doesn't have Permanent Residency is an import, including New Zealanders. 2. Only 4 imports per roster, and only 2 can play per game. 3. No import goalies.
