Adams State University
Adams State University is a public university in Alamosa, Colorado. The university's Adams State Grizzlies athletic teams compete in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. History Adams State was founded in 1921 as a teacher's college. Billy Adams, a Colorado legislator who would later become a three-term governor of Colorado, worked for three decades before obtaining the authorization to found Adams State Normal School in 1921, to provide higher education opportunities for teachers from remote and rural areas of Colorado, such as the San Luis Valley, and see them work in those same areas. In 1926, Harriet Dalzell Hester became the university's first graduate. She became the school's first librarian and an Alamosa County school superintendent. The school adopted the name Adams State College in 1946, corresponding with the expansion of its undergraduate and graduate programs. Ira Richardson
Ira Richardson (1871 – October 6, 1958) was a president of Northwest Missouri State University and founding president of Adams State College. Early life Richardson was a native of northern Missouri and received a degree from Central Methodist University in 1897. He received two master's degrees from Columbia University. Shakir Smith (born October 25, 1992) is an American professional basketball player. He played college basketball at Wyoming from 2011 to 2012, Pima CC from 2013 to 2014 and Adams State from 2014 to 2016. College career As a senior at Adams State in 2015-16 Smith averaged 20.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 30.7 minutes in 28 appearances. Pat Porter
Patrick ("Pat") Ralph Porter (May 31, 1959 – July 26, 2012) was an American distance runner. Born in Wadena, Minnesota, he graduated from Adams State in 1982 with a degree in marketing, after which he became one of the most dominant U.S. distance runners of the 1980s. Porter was a two time U.S. Olympian, running the 10000 meters at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games. In 1983 he set the World Record for a road 10K at 27:31.8. He won the silver medal at the 1985 IAAF World Cup in Canberra, Australia, getting nipped at the tape by Ethiopia's Wodajo Bulti by six hundredths of a second. Chris Perry (American Football)
Raymond Christopher Perry (born December 27, 1981) is a former American college and professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for five seasons during the mid-2000s. He played college football for the University of Michigan, and received All-American honors. Neal Nelson
Neal Nelson is a basketball, tennis, and golf coach, as well as an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin–Waukesha. He is most well known for his basketball coaching accomplishments, such as a career at UW-Waukesha with over 500 wins, and 5 Wisconsin Collegiate Conference state titles. In 2012, he was elected into the Wisconsin Coaches Hall of Fame. Carlos F. Lucero (born November 23, 1940) is an American attorney and jurist serving as a senior United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Early life and education Lucero was born in Antonito, Colorado. Don Cockroft
Donald Lee Cockroft (born February 6, 1945) is a former American football punter and placekicker who played 13 seasons in the National Football League with the Cleveland Browns. He has the third most career points for a Brown behind fellow kickers Phil Dawson (second) and Lou Groza. Cockroft served as the Browns' primary punter and placekicker for the first nine seasons of his career. In 1977, he dropped punting from his duties and became solely a placekicker.
