Adaklu District
Adaklu District is one of the eighteen districts in Volta Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Adaklu-Anyigbe Districton 13 August 2004, until the western part of the district was split off to create Adaklu District on 28 June 2012; thus the remaining part has been renamed as Agotime-Ziope District (under the then-president John Atta Mills government). The district assembly is located in the central part of Volta Region and has Adaklu Waya as its capital town. Administration The district is headed by a District Chief Executive appointed by the President of Ghana in consultation with the local District Assembly. The Assembly consists of elected representatives. The district is represented in the parliament of Ghana by the Member of Parliament for the Adaklu (Ghana parliament constituency), Adaklu constituency whose boundaries coincide with that of the district. Districts Of Ghana
The Districts of Ghana are second-level administrative subdivisions of Ghana, below the level of region. There are 261 local metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (or MMDA's). History The districts of Ghana were re-organized in 1988/1989 in an attempt to decentralize the government and to assist in development. The reform of the late 1980s subdivided the regions of Ghana into 110 districts, where local district assemblies should deal with the local administration. By 2006, an additional 28 districts were created by splitting some of the original 110, bringing their number up to 138. In February 2008, there were more districts created and some were upgraded to municipal status. This brought the final number to 170 districts in Ghana. Volta Region
Volta Region (or Volta) is one of Ghana's sixteen administrative regions, with Ho designated as its capital. It is located west of Republic of Togo and to the east of Lake Volta. Divided into 25 administrative districts, the region is multi-ethnic and multilingual, including groups such as the Ewe, the Guan, and the Akan peoples. The Guan peoples include the Lolobi, Likpe, Akpafu, Buem, and Nkonya (now part of Oti region) people. This region was carved out of the Volta Region in December 2018 by the New Patriotic Party. The Regions of Ghana constitute the first level of subnational government administration within the Republic of Ghana. As of 2020, there are currently sixteen regions, which are further divided for administrative purposes into 260 local metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (or MMDA's). Adaklu-Anyigbe District is a former district that was located in Volta Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Ho District on 10 March 1989, until the southern part was split off to create Adaklu-Anyigbe District on 13 August 2004; thus the remaining part has been retained as Ho Municipal District. However, on 28 June 2012, it was split off into two new districts: Agotime-Ziope District (capital: Agortime-Kpetoe) and Adaklu District (capital: Adaklu Waya). John Atta Mills
John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills (21 July 1944 – 24 July 2012) was a Ghanaian politician and legal scholar who served as President of Ghana from 2009 until his death in 2012. He was inaugurated on 7 January 2009, having defeated the governing party candidate Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2008 election. The Parliament of Ghana is the legislative body of the Government of Ghana. History Legislative representation in Ghana dates back to 1850, when the country was a British colony known as Gold Coast. Adaklu is one of the constituency, constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana. It elects one Member of Parliament, Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.
