It encompasses all winegrowing areas in Valparaíso Region. The Aconcagua wine region is composed of four minor wine districts; Casablanca Valley, Aconcagua Costa, Aconcagua Valley and Leyda Valley. "Aconcagua Valley" is a wine-producing region located 65 km (40 mi) north of Santiago in the east of the Valparaíso Region. It is a Denomination of Origin (DO) defined by the Chilean Appellation system, the legally defined and protected geographical indication used to identify where the grapes for a wine were grown. Syrah
Syrah (), also known as Shiraz, is a dark-skinned grape variety grown throughout the world and used primarily to produce red wine. In 1999, Syrah was found to be the offspring of two obscure grapes from southeastern France, Dureza and Mondeuse Blanche.
