Acklam, Ryedale
Acklam is a small village and civil parish in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England although it is historically part of the East Riding of Yorkshire. It is situated approximately north-east of York city centre and south of the town of Malton. History Acklam is mentioned in the Domesday Book as ''Aclum'' in the East Riding and gave its name to the Hundred. The Lord in 1066 was named as '' Siward'' and comprised 4 ploughlands with 2 Lord's plough teams and a church. Leavening is a village and civil parish in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England. The village is situated approximately north-east from the centre of the city of York. It was historically part of the East Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. History Leavening is listed in the 1086 ''Domesday Book'' as in the Acklam Hundred of the East Riding of Yorkshire. At the time of the survey the settlement contained 10 households, 5 villagers, 5 smallholders, and 3 ploughlands. Yorkshire Wolds
The Yorkshire Wolds are low hills in the counties of the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Yorkshire in north-eastern England. The name also applies to the district in which the hills lie. On the western edge, the Wolds rise to an escarpment which then drops sharply to the Vale of York. The highest point on the escarpment is Bishop Wilton Wold (also known as Garrowby Hill), which is above sea level. To the north, on the other side of the Vale of Pickering, lie the North York Moors, and to the east the hills flatten into the plain of Holderness. The largest town in the Wolds is Driffield, with other places including Pocklington, Thixendale and Kilham, the original 'capital' of the Wolds. BBC Radio York
BBC Radio York is the BBC's local radio station serving the county of North Yorkshire. It broadcasts on FM, DAB, digital TV and via BBC Sounds from studios in the Bootham area of York. According to RAJAR, the station has a weekly audience of 59,000 listeners and a 3.7% share as of September 2022. Early history In May 1982, just over a year before the station was due to launch, a temporary service was provided to cover Pope John Paul II's visit to York. The service, which ran for just over 24 hours, operated on what was to be the station's primary MW frequency and was also broadcast on the other local stations in the Yorkshire region. Minster FM was a local radio station serving York and the surrounding areas such as Selby, Tadcaster, Thirsk, Northallerton and Goole. The station closed on 31 August 2020 and its frequency is now a relay of Greatest Hits Radio Yorkshire York & North Yorkshire. It broadcast on 104.7 FM from the Acklam Wold transmitter, near Leavening, on the Yorkshire Wolds. History Former logo used until Rebranding in 2020 Minster FM, named after York Minster, launched at 6am on Saturday 4 July 1992. This was nine years, to the day, after BBC Radio York started to broadcast. The first presenter to air on Minster FM was Daragh Corcoran and the first song played was 'Saturday in the Park' by Chicago and at the time of launch it had a live locally presented schedule 24 hours a day. The North York Moors is an upland area in north-eastern Yorkshire, England. It contains one of the largest expanses of heather moorland in the United Kingdom. The area was designated as a National Park in 1952, through the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949. Covering an area of , the National Park has a population of 23,380. It is administered by the North York Moors National Park Authority, whose head office is based in Helmsley. BBC National DAB is a digital audio broadcasting multiplex in the UK, for a number of radio stations which have UK wide coverage. The multiplex is owned and operated by the BBC and is transmitted from a number of transmitter sites across the country; it only carries BBC radio stations.
