Abraham Bar Hiyya
Abraham bar Ḥiyya ha-Nasi (; – 1136 or 1145), also known as Abraham Savasorda, Abraham Albargeloni, and Abraham Judaeus, was a Catalan Jewish mathematician, astronomer and philosopher who resided in Barcelona. Bar Ḥiyya was active in translating the works of Islamic science into Latin, and was likely the earliest to introduce Arabic algebra into Christian Europe. He also wrote several original works on mathematics, astronomy, Jewish philosophy, chronology, and land surveying. His most influential work is his ''Ḥibbur ha-Meshiḥah ve-ha-Tishboret'', translated in 1145 into Latin as ''Liber embadorum''. A Hebrew treatise on practical geometry and Islamic algebra, the book contains the first known complete solution of the quadratic equation x^2 - ax + b = c, and influenced the work of Leonardo Fibonacci. Banu Hud
The Banu Hud ( ar, بنو هود ', the Hudid dynasty) were an Arab dynasty that ruled the ' of Zaragoza from 1039 until 1110. In 1039, under the leadership of Al-Mustain I, Sulayman ibn Hud al-Judhami, the Bani Hud seized control of Zaragoza from a rival clan, the Banu Tujib. His heirs, particularly Ahmad I al-Muqtadir (1046–1081), Yusuf al-Mutamin (1081–1085), and Al-Mustain II, Ahmad ibn Yusuf (1085–1110), were patrons of culture and the arts. The Aljafería, the royal residence erected by Ahmad I, is practically the only palace from that period to have survived almost in its entirety. Hezekiah Gaon
Hezekiah Gaon or Hezekiah ben David ( he, חזקיה בן דוד) was the last Gaon of the Talmudic academy in Pumbedita from 1038–40. Hezekiah ben David was a member of the House of Exilarchs, his father David was the son of Zakkai. Some scholars believe Hezekiah was great-grandson of David ben Zakai (not the grandson of David). Hezekiah was elected to the office of principal after the death of Hai Gaon at the age of 99, but was denounced to a fanatical government of the Buyid dynasty, who then imprisoned and tortured him to death.
