Cape Cross (horse)
Cape Cross (13 March 1994 – 21 April 2017) was an Irish-bred Thoroughbred racehorse. He is a son of the July Cup winner Green Desert and Cheveley Park Stakes, winner Park Appeal who was the Champion two-year-old filly in England and Ireland in 1984. Racing career As a two-year-old Cape Cross raced twice, winning his maiden on the second attempt. His first start as a three-year-old was in the Craven Stakes, where he finished third. This was followed by an eighth place in the 2000 Guineas. He only won once as a three-year-old. He won the Lockinge Stakes as a four-year-old, when starting a 20/1 outsider. He won twice as a five-year-old, the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Celebration Mile. The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) is one of the oldest institutions in Hong Kong, having been founded in 1884. In 1959, it was granted a Royal Charter and renamed The Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club (). The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. Although the word ''thoroughbred'' is sometimes used to refer to any breed of purebred horse, it technically refers only to the Thoroughbred breed. Green Desert (16 April 1983 – 9 September 2015) was an American-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. Racing career 1985: two-year-old season After finishing second on his racecourse debut, Green Desert won the July Stakes over six furlongs at Newmarket Racecourse. He then finished second to Nomination in the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood before dropping back to five furlongs to win the Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster Racecourse. Hong Kong Mile
The Hong Kong Mile is a Group 1 flat horse race in Hong Kong which is open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run over a distance of 1,600 metres (about 1 mile) at Sha Tin, and it is scheduled to take place each year in mid December. The race was first run in 1991, and it was originally titled the Hong Kong International Bowl. Its distance was initially set at 1,400 metres. The event's present title and distance were both introduced in 1999, and the following year it was promoted to Group 1 status.
