Hong Kong Horse Of The Year
Horse of the Year is the most prestigious honor in Thoroughbred horse racing given by racing organizations in a variety of countries around the world. In Hong Kong, the voting for Horse of the Year is organized by the Hong Kong Jockey Club as part of its annual Hong Kong Jockey Club Champion Awards. The Judging Panel consists of six members from the Hong Kong Jockey Club and the Association of Hong Kong Racing Journalists. Thoroughbred racing is a sport and industry involving the racing of Thoroughbred horses. It is governed by different national bodies. There are two forms of the sport – flat racing and jump racing, the latter known as National Hunt racing in the UK and steeplechasing in the US. Bullish Luck
Bullish Luck ({{zh, c=牛精福星) (foaled 1999) is a Hong Kong based Thoroughbred racehorse. Bred in Kentucky, he is the son of the 1990 Breeders' Cup Mile winner Royal Academy and out of the Alysheba mare Wild Vintage. He was sold by his breeders at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale to Gordon Smyth who named him "Al Moughazel" and sent him to Newmarket for training under Pip Payne. Sold to Wong Wing-keung of Hong Kong, his name was changed to Bullish Luck. In his first few years of racing, the colt met with only modest success. However, at age five he began to demonstrate real promise, winning the Group I 2004 Hong Kong Gold Cup and finishing second to Alexander Goldrun in December's Hong Kong Cup. In 2005 Bullish Luck won the Champions Mile at Sha Tin Racecourse and in the process put an end to the seventeen-race win streak of stablemate Silent Witness. Indigenous (horse)
Indigenous () (1993–2004) was an Irish thoroughbred racehorse who also raced in Hong Kong. He was bred by Major John de Burgh at his Oldtown Stud in Naas, County Kildare, Ireland and sold as a yearling for 10,500 guineas at the Goffs Orby Sale in 1994. Purchased by trainer Kevin Prendergast, he was named "Qualtron." Racing in Ireland at age two, he won one of three starts and at age three, won two of five starts. With a record of 3-0-1 in 8 starts, he was sold to Mr. & Mrs. Pang Yuen Hing to race in Hong Kong where he was renamed Indigenous and became widely regarded as one of Hong Kong's best stayers. Fairy King Prawn
Fairy King Prawn (Chinese 靚蝦王: foaled 13 October 1995) was an Australian-bred, Hong Kong-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. After being sold and exported to Hong Kong as a yearling he became one of the most successful and popular horses in his adopted territory. Equally adept as a sprinter or as a miler he won twelve of his twenty-six starts including the Chairman's Sprint Prize (twice) the Hong Kong Sprint, Hong Kong Stewards' Cup and Bauhinia Sprint Trophy. In 2000 he became the first Hong Kong horse to win a Grade One race abroad when he won the Yasuda Kinen in Japan. He won numerous awards including the title of Hong Kong Horse of the Year on two occasions. He was retired from racing in 2002 after undergoing surgery for serious leg injuries.
