Abdurrahman Mahmoud Aidiid
Abdurrahman Mahmoud Aidiid (Soltelco) ( so, Cabdiraxman Maxmuud Caydiid, ar, عبد الرحمن محمود عيديد) is a Somalilander politician. He is a former Mayor of Hargeisa, the largest city and capital of Somaliland from 2013 to 2021,. He belongs to the Sa'ad Musa sub-division of the Habr Awal Isaaq clan. Career Aidiid is a member of the Peace, Unity, and Development Party (Kulmiye), the ruling political party in Somaliland. After the death of Hargeisa Mayor Yusuf Warsame Saeed, Aidiid was elected as replacement leader on April 14, 2013 by a quorum of 24 municipal councilors. He is the youngest official ever to be appointed to the position. Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge
Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge Liibaan ( so, Cabdikariin Axmed Mooge Liibaan) is a Somaliland politician and is the current Mayor of Hargeisa, the largest city and capital of Somaliland. He belongs to the Eidagale sub-division of the Garhajis Isaaq clan. Early life Abdikarim was born in 1974 in Sin-ujiif, a village in the outskirts of Garowe, Somalia. Abdikarim is the son of famous Somali artist Ahmed Mooge Liibaan and nephew of famous Somali artist Mohamed Mooge Liibaan. He grew up in Hargeisa, where he completed his primary and secondary education. At the outbreak of clashes in Hargeisa during the Somaliland War of Independence, Abdikarim fled to Ethiopia, specifically the Kaam-Abokor refugee camp. Upon his return to Somaliland, he and several other youth founded the HAVAYOCO agency, with the goal of supporting vulnerable people and youth. Peace, Unity, And Development Party
The Kulmiye Peace, Unity and Development Party ( so, Xisbiga Kulmiye Nabad, Midnimo iyo Horumarka; ar, حزب التضامن), also known as simply Kulmiye (), is a political party in Somaliland. The party was founded by Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud "Silanyo" in May 2002, ahead of the first municipal elections later that year. The party is mainly supported by people from the Habr Je'lo, Habr Awal and Darod clans. Hargeisa (; so, Hargeysa, ar, هرجيسا) is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Somaliland. It is located in the Maroodi Jeex region of the Horn of Africa. It succeeded Burco as the capital of the British Somaliland Protectorate in 1941. Hargeisa is the largest city in Somaliland, and also served as the capital of the Isaaq Sultanate during the mid-to-late 19th century. 2021 Somaliland Municipal Elections
Mayoral and local district council elections were held in Somaliland on 31 May 2021 alongside parliamentary elections, after multiple delays. On 12 July 2020, Somaliland's major political parties reached a landmark agreement to ensure timely elections and to advance preparations for the elections. Negotiations between the parties and the National Electoral Commission settled on the earliest possible date by which the latter believed it would have sufficient time to prepare for the polls. Number of voters 1,065,847 people registered to vote in Somaliland's local elections. 552 candidates vied for 220 seats.
