Abano Terme
Abano Terme (known as Abano Bagni until 1924) is a town and ''comune'' in the Province of Padua, in the Veneto region, Italy, on the eastern slope of the Euganean Hills; it is southwest by rail from Padua. Abano Terme's population is 19,062 (2001) (in 1901 it was 4,556). The town's hot springs and mud baths are an important economic resource. The waters have a temperature of about . History The baths were known to the Romans as '' Aponi fons'' or ''Aquae Patavinae''. A description of them is given in a letter to Theodoric, the king of the Ostrogoths, from Cassiodorus. Some remains of the ancient baths have been discovered (S. Mandruzzato, ''Trattato dei Bagni d'Abano,'' Padua, 1789). Gildo Rizzato (born 2 February 1948) is an Italian former footballer who played as a forward. Career Rizzato played at the youth level with A.C. Montagnana. In 1964, he played with F.C. Legnago Salus, and the following season with S.P.A.L. He returned to Legnago in 1966, and had another stint with SPAL in the Serie A in 1967. In 1968, he played in the Serie B with SPAL, and in 1969 he played in the Serie C with Empoli F.C. He played in the Serie D with U.S. Triestina Calcio 1918, and assisted in securing promotion by winning the league title. In the summer of 1973 he played abroad in the National Soccer League with Toronto Italia. In late 1973, he played with A.S.D. Sangiovannese 1927, and later played with A.S.D. Nuovo Monselice Calcio. The Serie D () is the top level of semi-professional football in the country. The fourth tier of the Italian league system, the competition sits beneath the third professional league, Serie C. It is administered by the Lega Nazionale Dilettanti and is organized by the Roman ''Comitato Interregionale'' (Interregional Committee), a "league in the league" inside the LND. History In 1948 the three leagues running Division 3 (Serie C) had to be reorganized due to an ever-growing number of regional teams. FIGC decided not to relegate the excess teams to regional championships. It chose the winners and a few runners-up from the 36 Serie C championships to be added to the new third division set up into 4 groups.
