Aaron Leibowitz
Aaron Leibowitz is an American-born Israeli rabbi. Rabbinic and political career Aaron Leibowitz is a noted educator, and started Hashgacha Pratit, a kosher certification independent of the Israeli Chief Rabbinate. He is also a councilor for the Jerusalem municipality for the Yerushalmim Yerushalmim ( he, ירושלמים; ) is an Israeli local civilian organization and political party in Jerusalem. Hashgacha Pratit (השגחה-פרטית) is an independent, Israel-based organization with both female and male clergy that self-describes as providing an alternative form of Orthodox Rabbinical authority and social activism group dedicated to challenging the monopoly of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel over religious ceremonies and practices, through the provision of private religious ceremonies. Founded in 2012 by Rabbi Aaron Leibowitz in Jerusalem, Israel, it offers alternative ''halachic'' services in life-cycle events, rabbinical training, and other courses in religious education. A hechsher (; he, הֶכְשֵׁר "prior approval"; plural: ''hechsherim'') is a rabbinical product certification, qualifying items (usually foods) that conform to the requirements of halakha. Forms A hechsher may be a printed and signed certificate displayed at a commercial venue or on a media advertisement advising the consumer that the subjected product is kosher. Such certificates usually display the name of the rabbinical court issuing the hechsher, the name of the business or product, date of issue, expiry date and stamp of rabbi who issued the certificate. It may also be a certification marking on individual retail packaging of items which have been certified as Kosher.
