Aarhus City Bikes
Aarhus Bycykler (colloq Bycyklen) is a municipal bicycle sharing system located in Aarhus, Central Region, Denmark. It consists of 450 bicycles at 52 hubs located in the Midtbyen, the University Campus and Trøjborg areas of the city. The system is operated by Aarhus Municipality using equipment developed by ''CIOS ApS''. The system is free to use requiring a DKK 20 kr. deposit, is maintained by unemployed citizens through municipal work programs and is partially funded through advertising. Due to the hilly terrain of the city all bikes have gears and in 2014 it will gradually transition to lighter aluminum models. The blue city bikes were removed in 2022 and replaced by orange shared bikes, which are provided by company Donkey Republic. History In 2004 Aarhus Municipality put a bicycle sharing program for the city of Aarhus up for a public bid but it was eventually decided to instead run it as public municipal program. Bicycle Sharing System
A bicycle-sharing system, bike share program, public bicycle scheme, or public bike share (PBS) scheme, is a shared transport service where bicycles are available for shared use by individuals at low cost. The programmes themselves include both docking and dockless systems, where docking systems allow users to rent a bike from a dock, i.e., a technology-enabled bicycle rack and return at another node or dock within the system — and dockless systems, which offer a node-free system relying on smart technology. In either format, systems may incorporate smartphone web mapping to locate available bikes and docks. In July 2020, Google Maps began including bike share systems in its route recommendations. With its antecedents in grassroots mid-1960s efforts; by 2022, approximately 3,000 cities worldwide offer bike-sharing systems, e.g., Dubai, New York, Paris, Montreal and Barcelona. Central Denmark Region
The Central Denmark Region ( da, Region Midtjylland), or more directly translated as the Central Jutland Region and sometimes simply Mid Jutland, is an administrative region of Denmark established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish municipal reform. The reform abolished the traditional counties (''amter'') and replaced them with five new administrative regions. At the same time, smaller municipalities were merged into larger units, cutting the total number of municipalities from 271 to 98. The reform diminished the power of the regional level dramatically in favour of the local level and the national government in Copenhagen. The Central Denmark Region comprises 19 municipalities. Toponymy The Danish name of the region means "Region of Mid Jutland" and describes the location in the central part of the Jutland peninsula, in contrast to Northern Jutland and Southern Jutland (which, together with Funen and some smaller islands, forms the Region of Southern Denmark). For com ...

Midtbyen, Aarhus
Midtbyen (lit. "The Mid-town"), also known as Aarhus Center or City, is the inner part of Aarhus. Midtbyen is part of district Aarhus C, with postal code 8000, together with Vesterbro, Nørre Stenbro and Frederiksbjerg and it has a population of 55,000. Parts of the old town center has been saved and protected from destructive modern development and can be experienced in the neighbourhood of Latinerkvarteret, but old individual listed houses are scattered all across Midtbyen. A large part of the area is carfree and the neighborhood has been increasingly pedestrianised. The square of Store Torv (lit.: ''large square'') in front of the cathedral, forms a natural centre of the large pedestrian zone. The stream of Aarhus Å flows through Midtbyen and adds to the areas' distinct charm. The waterway was covered by roads for many decades, but has recently ...

Trøjborg
Trøjborg is a neighborhood in the city of Aarhus, Denmark in Skt. Johannes parish with about 11,000 residents as of 2015. The neighborhood is part of the district Aarhus N and borders the neighborhoods Nørre Stenbro to the South West, Risskov to the North and Riis Skov and the Bay of Aarhus to the East. In the case of Aarhus, the name is first seen in a document from 1632 mentioning Trøjborgbæk and again in 1758 when a garden called Trøjborg beyond the city gate at Mejlgade was sold. The name is likely a reference to the hilly landscape around Riis Skov. History The neighborhood developed as a working-class district in response to ra ...

Community Bicycle Programs
A community is a social unit (a group of living things) with commonality such as place, norms, religion, values, customs, or identity. Communities may share a sense of place situated in a given geographical area (e.g. a country, village, town, or neighbourhood) or in virtual space through communication platforms. Durable good relations that extend beyond immediate genealogical ties also define a sense of community, important to their identity, practice, and roles in social institutions such as family, home, work, government, society, or humanity at large. Although communities are usually small relative to personal social ties, "community" may also refer to large group affiliations such as national communities, international communities, and virtual communities. The English-language word "community" derives from the Old French ''comuneté'' (Modern French: ''communauté''), which comes from the Latin ''communitas'' "community", "public spirit" (from Latin '' communis'', "c ...
