Aarhus City Bikes
Aarhus Bycykler (colloq Bycyklen) is a municipal bicycle sharing system located in Aarhus, Central Region, Denmark. It consists of 450 bicycles at 52 hubs located in the Midtbyen, the University Campus and Trøjborg areas of the city. The system is operated by Aarhus Municipality using equipment developed by ''CIOS ApS''. The system is free to use requiring a DKK 20 kr. deposit, is maintained by unemployed citizens through municipal work programs and is partially funded through advertising. Due to the hilly terrain of the city all bikes have gears and in 2014 it will gradually transition to lighter aluminum models. The blue city bikes were removed in 2022 and replaced by orange shared bikes, which are provided by company Donkey Republic. A bicycle-sharing system, bike share program, public bicycle scheme, or public bike share (PBS) scheme, is a shared transport service where bicycles are available for shared use by individuals at low cost. The programmes themselves include both docking and dockless systems, where docking systems allow users to rent a bike from a dock, i.e., a technology-enabled bicycle rack and return at another node or dock within the system — and dockless systems, which offer a node-free system relying on smart technology. In either format, systems may incorporate smartphone web mapping to locate available bikes and docks. In July 2020, Google Maps began including bike share systems in its route recommendations. Aarhus Municipality
Aarhus Municipality ( da, Aarhus Kommune), known as Århus Municipality ( da, Århus Kommune) until 2011, is a municipality in Central Denmark Region, on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. The municipality covers an area of , and has a population of 349,983 as of 2020. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the city of Aarhus. Neighbouring municipalities are Syddjurs to the north, Favrskov to the northwest, Skanderborg to the southwest, and Odder to the south. Central Denmark Region
The Central Denmark Region ( da, Region Midtjylland), or more directly translated as the Central Jutland Region and sometimes simply Mid Jutland, is an administrative region of Denmark established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish municipal reform. The reform abolished the traditional counties (''amter'') and replaced them with five new administrative regions. At the same time, smaller municipalities were merged into larger units, cutting the total number of municipalities from 271 to 98. Midtbyen, Aarhus
Midtbyen (lit. "The Mid-town"), also known as Aarhus Center or City, is the inner part of Aarhus. Midtbyen is part of district Aarhus C, with postal code 8000, together with Vesterbro, Nørre Stenbro and Frederiksbjerg and it has a population of 55,000. Midtbyen is characterized by narrow, winding, cobbled streets and a busy street life, with many small squares, cafés and shops. Parts of the old town center has been saved and protected from destructive modern development and can be experienced in the neighbourhood of Latinerkvarteret, but old individual listed houses are scattered all across Midtbyen. Trøjborg is a neighborhood in the city of Aarhus, Denmark in Skt. Johannes parish with about 11,000 residents as of 2015. The neighborhood is part of the district Aarhus N and borders the neighborhoods Nørre Stenbro to the South West, Risskov to the North and Riis Skov and the Bay of Aarhus to the East. Trøjborg is delimited by the streets Dronning Margrethesvej, Trøjborgvej and Nordre Ringgade. Etymology Trøjborg, formerly Troyæborg, is used to denote buildings and areas in several places in Denmark. The name originates from the labyrinth at the castle of the classical Troy and is often used to name places that are naturally labyrinthine.
