Aage Rafn
Aage Rafn (21 April 1890 - 7 May 1953) was a Danish architect and designer. He headed Kunsthåndværkerskolen in Copenhagen from 1924. Early life and education Rafn was born on 21 April 1890 in Copenhagen, the son off Carl Hjalmar Rafn (1848-1919) and Anna Elisabeth Albertine Kaper (1867-1942).His father served as headmaster of the Metropolitan School from 1902 to 1918. His paternal grandfather was the antiquarian and publisher, writer and publisher Carl Christian Rafn. Rafn matriculated from Metropolitanskolen in 1908. He enrolled at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1909 and graduated from Kunstakademiets Arkitektskole in 1919. He won the academy's great gold medal in 1921. Career Already as students, Rafn and Kay Fisker won 2nd prize in am architectural competition to design the stations on a new railway on Bornholm. Sankt Lukas Stiftelsen is a Deacon institution located at Bernstorffsvej 20 in Hellerup, Gentofte Municipality, Copenhagen, Denmark. History Sankt Lukas Stiftelsen was founded by Isabelle Brockenhuus-Løwenhielm and pastor Vilhelm Kold from Indre Mission on 8 May 1900. Its current premises were inaugurated in 1932. The land had previously belonged to the Lundegaard estate. The buildings were designed by the architect Valdemar Birkmand and Aage Rafn. Today Sankt Lukas Stiftelsen comprises a home for the elderly, a daycare, a hospice and a cohousing community. The complex also comprises a chapel. Charlottenlund
Charlottenlund is a suburban area on the coast north of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is the administrative seat of Gentofte Municipality. Bordered to the east by the Øresund, to the South by Hellerup and to the north by Klampenborg, it is one of the wealthiest areas in Denmark. The neighbourhood takes its name after Charlottenlund Palace. History In 1733, King Christian VI of Denmark rebuilt the Gyldenlund Palace, renaming it Charlottenlund Palace after his sister Charlotte Amalie of Denmark, Princess Charlotte Amalie. Niels August Theodor Kaj Gottlob, usually known as Kaj Gottlob, (9 November 1887 – 12 May 1976) was a Danish architect who contributed much to Neoclassicism and Functionalism both as professor of the School of Architects at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and as a royal building inspector. Early life After qualifying from Borgerdyd School in 1905, Gottlob attended the Technical School (1905-1908) and the Royal Academy, graduating as an architect in 1914. Frederikssundsvej
Frederikssundsvej is a major artery in the North-West, Brønshøj and Husum districts of Copenhagen, Denmark. It begins at Nørrebro Station as the direct continuation of Nørrebrogade and changes its name to Herlev Hovedgade and then Skovlunde Byvej, Ballerup Byvej and Måløv Byvej before reaching the town of Frederikssund. History The street originates in the old road between Copenhagen and Frederikssund. It began at the Hyttebro, a bridge across the Lygte stream (Lygteåen) which then marked the boundary between Copenhagen and the civil parish of Brønshøj-Husum. Lygtekroen, a roadside inn frequented by travelers to and from Copenhagen, was located close to the bridge. The road passed the villages of Brønshøj, Herlev and Islev on the way to Frederikssund. Store Mariendal
Store Mariendal was a country house at Strandvejen 135 in Hellerup, on the border between Copenhagen and Gentofte municipalities, Copenhagen, Denmark. It was operated as a hotel and entertainment venue in the 1900s and 1910s and served as the residence of Prince Viggo from 1931 to 1970. The building was demolished in 1977 and a housing estate with 121 apartments by the same name is now located at the site. History A countryhouse named Lille Lokkerup was in the beginning of the 18th century located at the site. It was in the late 1720s owned by Christian Koningh. A later owner, royal mint masterChristian Wieneken, renamed it Mariendal after his wife. The property was in 1757 acquired by Philip de Lange. Hellerup
Hellerup () is a very affluent district of Gentofte Municipality in the suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. The most urban part of the district is centred on Strandvejen and is bordered by Østerbro to the south and the Øresund to the east. It comprises Tuborg Havn, the redeveloped brewery site of Tuborg Breweries, with the Waterfront Shopping Center, a marina and the headquarters of several large companies. Christian Kampmann (arkitekt)
Christian Peter Georg Kampmann (24 July 1939 in Hellerup – 13 September 1988 on Læsø) was a Danish writer and journalist. His novels are mainly about the middle and upper classes in the post war time and until the 1980s. The books are mainly about people who has some problems finding their place in the world and their feelings, e.g. homosexuality. Kampmann was bisexual himself, and was married to piano player Therese Herman Koppel for many years and had two children. Kampmann was involved in the Danish Gay Liberation Front from 1975 and he was editor of the journal Sexual Policy from 1975 to 1978. In 1988, he was killed at his beach house on Læsø by his cohabitant and lover, Danish author Jens Michael Schau. Almindingen
Almindingen ("the common") is one of the largest forests in Denmark. It is located in the centre of the island of Bornholm. The forest covers , making it Denmark's third largest. Though it was at one time common grazing land for cattle, it was fenced in for forestry in 1809 by Hans Rømer, the forest supervisor. As a result, by the beginning of the 20th century, Bornholm had become Denmark's most forested region. Bornholm's highest point is Rytterknægten at , where there is a memorial to Frederick VII of Denmark and Countess Danner's visit to the island in 1851. In 2012, the Nature Agency brought seven European bison from a Polish primeval forest to a paddock in Almindingen, marking the first time in 2,500 years that Europe's heaviest land-living mammals were in Denmark.
