A Queen For Caesar
''A Queen for Caesar'' ( it, Una regina per Cesare, french: Cléopâtre une reine pour César) is a 1962 Italian-French historical drama film directed by Piero Pierotti and Victor Tourjansky and starring Pascale Petit, George Ardisson and Rik Battaglia. It is set in Egypt in 48 BC. Unlike other films about Caesar and Cleopatra, this film focuses entirely on the dynastic struggle within Egypt leading up to the arrival of Caesar, and in fact, we only see him in the closing scene of the film when he arrives at the Ptolemaic Palace in Alexandria. Piero Pierotti
Piero Pierotti (1 January 1912 – 4 May 1970) was an Italian director, screenwriter and journalist. Life and career Born in Pisa, Pierotti started his career as a journalist, working for ''La Nazione'' and ''Il Nuovo Corriere'', and later founding the newspaper ''Corriere dell'Arno''. After some amateur shorts, he moved to Rome where he enrolled in the courses of directing at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, graduating in 1939. Pierotti later started teaching direction at the University of Pisa, and at the same time he was also active as a documentarist and an assistant director, often collaborating with Raffaello Matarazzo. Active as a screenwriter since 1955, in the late 1950s he made his directional debut with '' L'arciere nero'' and he then directed fifteen films until 1969, being mainly active in the adventure and peplum genres. Ennio Balbo
Ennio Balbo (18 April 1922 – 18 June 1989) was an Italian film, television and voice actor. Biography Born in Naples, Balbo made his debut on stage immediately after the Second World War alongside Paola Borboni and Lamberto Picasso in Luigi Pirandello's ''Così è se vi pare''. He was later a member of the theater company of Gino Cervi, as well as one of the members of the "Society of the Four" alongside Valeria Moriconi, Lia Zoppelli and Gianni Agus. He was also very active as a character actor in films, mainly in villain roles; Balbo took part to numerous Spaghetti Western films in which he was usually credited as Edward Bell. Franco Volpi (actor)
Franco Volpi (11 July 1921 – 1 January 1997) was an Italian actor and voice actor. Biography Born in Milan, Volpi formed at the Accademia dei Filodrammatici and debuted on stage in 1938, aged 17, in the company held by Renzo Ricci and Laura Adani. He often worked with Ernesto Calindri, on stage, on television and in a popular series of commercials. He is regarded as one of the early stars of Italian television miniseries (the so-called "sceneggiati"). Volpi died of a tumour in Rome, on 1 January 1977, at the age of 75. Ptolemy XIII
Ptolemy XIII Theos Philopator ( grc-gre, Πτολεμαῖος Θεός Φιλοπάτωρ, ''Ptolemaĩos''; c. 62 BC – 13 January 47 BC) was Pharaoh of Egypt from 51 to 47 BC, and one of the last members of the Ptolemaic dynasty (305–30 BC). Corrado Pani (4 March 1936 – 2 March 2005) was an Italian actor and voice actor. Life and career Born in Rome, Pani began his career playing the role of Jesus as a child in a Radio Vaticana radio drama. He made his film debut in 1953, with a minor role in Dino Risi's ''Il viale della speranza''. In 1955 he had first major theatrical role, in ''Thè e simpatia''. Gordon Scott (born Gordon Merrill Werschkul; August 3, 1926 – April 30, 2007) was an American film and television actor known for his portrayal of the fictional character Tarzan in five films (and one compilation of three made-as-a-pilot television episodes) of the ''Tarzan'' film series from 1955 to 1960. Akim Mikhailovich Tamiroff, russian: Аким Михайлович Тамиров (born Hovakim Tamiryants; October 29, 1899 – September 17, 1972) was an Armenian-American actor of film, stage, and television. Lucius Septimius
Lucius Septimius was a Roman soldier and mercenary who is principally remembered as one of the assassins of the triumvir Pompey the Great. At the time of the assassination (48 BC) Septimius was serving the Ptolemies of Egypt as a mercenary. He was dispatched with orders to murder Pompey by Ptolemy XIII's advisors who wanted to win the favour of Julius Caesar for their king. Achillas
Achillas ( el, Ἀχιλλᾶς) was one of the guardians of the Egyptian king Ptolemy XIII Theos Philopator, and commander of the king's troops, when Pompey fled to Egypt in 48 BC. He was called by Julius Caesar a man of extraordinary daring, and it was he and Lucius Septimius who killed Pompey at the suggestion of the eunuch Pothinus and Theodotus of Chios. Achillas subsequently joined Pothinus in resisting Caesar, and having had the command of the whole army entrusted to him by Pothinus, he marched against Alexandria with 20,000 on foot and 2,000 cavalry. Caesar, who was at Alexandria, did not have sufficient forces to oppose him, and sent ambassadors to negotiate with him. ''Cleopatra'' is a 1963 American epic historical drama film directed by Joseph L.
