(stylized as "1-UP Studio Inc."), formerly is a Japanese video game developer founded on June 30, 2000, in Tokyo, Japan, and a subsidiary of Nintendo. On February 1, 2013, the company announced that due to their recent co-development efforts with Nintendo, that they were undergoing a change in internal structure, which included separating from another company that they were in partnership with, Brownies, and changing Brownie Brown's name to 1-Up Studio. HAL Laboratory
formerly shortened as HALKEN (derived from its native name), is a Japanese video game developer founded on 21 February 1980. While independent, it has been closely tied with Nintendo throughout its history, and is often referred to as a second-party developer for the company. HAL Laboratory is headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, and it also has a building at Kai, Yamanashi. The company got its name because "each letter put them one step ahead of IBM". The company is most famous for their work on the ''Kirby'' and ''Mother'' series, as well as the first two '' Super Smash Bros.'' games. Shigesato Itoi
is a Japanese copywriter, essayist, lyricist, game designer, and actor. Itoi is the editor-in-chief of his website and company '' Hobo Nikkan Itoi Shinbun'' ("Almost Daily Itoi Newspaper"). He is best known outside Japan for his work on Nintendo's ''Mother''/''EarthBound'' series of games, as well as his self-titled bass fishing video game. Writing During the 1980s Itoi established the profession of writing copy for advertisements among the general public in Japan. In 1981, he co-authored a collection of short stories titled ''Yume de Aimashou'' ("Let's meet in a dream") with writer Haruki Murakami. Later Itoi branched into writing essays, lyrics, and designing video games. He is best known outside of Japan for Nintendo's ''Earthbound'', released in 1994 in Japan (as ''Mother 2 : Giygas Strikes Back'') and in 1995 in North America. ''Final Fantasy Adventure'', known in Japan as or simply and later released in Europe as ''Mystic Quest'', is a ''Final Fantasy'' spinoff and the first game in the ''Mana'' series. Published by Square in 1991 on the Game Boy, it saw a North American re-release by Sunsoft in April 1998. Originally developed under the name ''Gemma Knights'', it features gameplay roughly similar to that of the original ''The Legend of Zelda'', but with the addition of role-playing statistical elements. Along with ''Final Fantasy Mystic Quest'', ''Final Fantasy Adventure'' was the first ''Final Fantasy'' game to be released in Europe.
