ABC (band)
ABC are an English pop band formed in Sheffield in 1980. Their classic line-up consisted of lead singer Martin Fry, guitarist and keyboardist Mark White, saxophonist Stephen Singleton and drummer David Palmer. Developed from an earlier band, Vice Versa, ABC achieved ten UK and five US Top 40 hit singles between 1981 and 1990, and their 1982 debut album, ''The Lexicon of Love'', was a UK number one. Their early-1980s success in the US saw them associated with the Second British Invasion. Now essentially a solo project for Fry, ABC continues to tour and released a ninth studio album, ''The Lexicon of Love II'', in 2016. Sheffield is a city status in the United Kingdom, city in South Yorkshire, England, whose name derives from the River Sheaf which runs through it. David Yarritu
David Yarritu is an American musician and photographer. He was best known for his short stint as a member of the English new wave band ABC in the 1980s. He was featured in several music videos from the band's '' How to Be a ... Zillionaire!'' album, including "Be Near Me" (1985). Yarritu's only credited role in the production of ''How to Be a ... Zillionaire!'' was providing spoken passages on some tracks. He and Eden (Fiona Russell Powell) were hired for ABC's ''Zillionaire!'' era mainly for their unconventional look onstage and in videos. In Yarritu's case, it was his short stature, shaven head, oversized eyeglasses, and diminutive build. He was the lone American in the band. Today Yarritu works as a freelance photographer, and is based in New York City. The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. "Tears Are Not Enough" is the debut single by English new wave band ABC. It was released on 16 October 1981 on two formats (7" and 12"). The two singles versions of the song are both different from the version on their debut studio album, ''The Lexicon of Love'' (1982). Originally produced by Steve Brown, it was remixed for the album by Trevor Horn. The song was ranked at number 7 among the ten best "Tracks of the Year" for 1981 by ''NME''. Leeds () is a city and the administrative centre of the City of Leeds district in West Yorkshire, England. It is built around the River Aire and is in the eastern foothills of the Pennines. Wire are an English rock band, formed in London in October 1976 by Colin Newman (vocals, guitar), Graham Lewis (bass, vocals), Bruce Gilbert (guitar) and Robert Grey (drums). They were originally associated with the punk rock scene, appearing on ''The Roxy London WC2'' album, and were later central to the development of post-punk, while their debut album ''Pink Flag'' was influential for hardcore punk. ''The Lexicon of Love II'' is the ninth studio album by English band ABC. It was released on 27 May 2016 on Virgin EMI, eight years after their previous album ''Traffic''. After a performance of ABC's studio album ''The Lexicon of Love'' in concert with Anne Dudley, lead singer of the band Martin Fry felt that it was time to develop a proper follow-up to the album. He wrote over 40 songs for the album with various guest writers and recorded the album with himself and Gary Stevenson producing. On the album's release, it received generally favourable reviews. Production In 2009, ABC member Martin Fry played ''The Lexicon of Love'' in its entirety at the Royal Albert Hall with the BBC Concert Orchestra which was conducted by Anne Dudley. The Second British Invasion consisted of music acts from the United Kingdom that became popular in the U.S. during the early-to-mid 1980s primarily due to the cable music channel MTV. The term derives from the similar British Invasion of the U.S. in the 1960s. These acts primarily brought with them synth-pop and new wave styles of music to the US charts, and according to ''Rolling Stone'', brought a "revolution in sound and style". During the late 1980s, glam metal and dance music replaced Second Invasion acts atop the US charts. ''The Lexicon of Love'' is the debut studio album by English pop band ABC. It was released on 21 June 1982 by Neutron Records in the United Kingdom, by Mercury Records in the United States and Japan, and by Vertigo Records in Canada and Europe. The album entered the UK Albums Chart at number one and has been certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It features four UK top 20 singles; "Tears Are Not Enough", "Poison Arrow", " The Look of Love" and "All of My Heart".
