Turkey took part in the Eurovision Song Contest 1985. The country was represented by a music trio named Mazhar Fuat Özkan (names of the members) with the song "Didai didai dai" written by Mazhar Alanson (Mazhar) and composed by the trio. Before Eurovision 9. Eurovision Şarkı Yarışması Türkiye Finali The final took place on 1 March 1985 at the Istanbul Atatürk Kültür Merkezi in Istanbul, hosted by Başak Doğru and Orhan Boran. Nine songs competed and the winner was determined by an expert jury. At Eurovision On the night of the contest Mahzar Fuat Özkan performed 7th in the running order following France and preceding Belgium. MFÖ
Mazhar-Fuat-Özkan (MFÖ), also known by their original name Mazhar ve Fuat, is a Turkish pop and rock band with Mazhar Alanson, Fuat Güner and Özkan Uğur as members. While many of their songs poke fun at common Turkish types ("Ali Desidero", "Piskopatım") or satirise prejudice and corruption ("Deli Deli", "Rüşvet"), others are more spiritual in nature, showing their interest in Sufism ("Sufi", "Ateş-i Aşka"). In 1965, Mazhar Alanson and Fuat Güner first met at a record shop when Alanson saw Güner with a Beatles record in his hand and offered then a stranger Güner to listen the record together. Sezen Aksu
Sezen Aksu (; born Fatma Sezen Yıldırım; 13 July 1954) is a Turkish pop music singer, songwriter and producer who has sold over 40 million albums worldwide. Her nicknames include the "Queen of Turkish Pop" and "''Minik Serçe''" ("Little Sparrow"). Aysel Gürel
Gönül Aysel Gürel (7 February 1929 – 17 February 2008) was a Turkish lyricist and actress. Besides her lyrics, which were performed by singers throughout Turkey, she was known for her outlandish clothing, make up and wigs. Biography Aysel Gürel was born in 1929 in Denizli, Turkey, in the western part of the country. She graduated from Istanbul University with a faculty of literature degree. Her lyrics were performed by such noted Turkish singers as Sezen Aksu. Besides lyric writing, Gürel also worked as an actress, drama player and a Turkologist. in 2007, Gürel appeared in a Turkish television commercial for Pepsi. Gürel was admitted to Metropolitan Florence Nightingale Hospital in Istanbul in December 2007. She was reportedly ill with lung cancer. Hıncal Uluç (1 November 1939 – 20 November 2022) was a Turkish journalist and writer. In 1980, he moved to Istanbul after signing a contract with Gelişim Publishing's owner Ercan Arıklı for publishing a magazine. Later, in 1990 following Zafer Mutlu's suggestion he started writing for ''Sabah (newspaper), Sabah''. He was shot in the heel after an armed attack in 1994. In 2004, due to an article he wrote about Alaaddin Yüksel, the governor of Antalya, he was sentenced to one month in prison and paying 898 in 2008. He continued to write for ''Sabah'' and appeared as a commentator on the news program ''90''. Following Defne Joy Foster's death, Uluç wrote an article about her neighbor's neglect under the title 'What kind of neighborhood is this?..' for which a lawsuit was filed against him and was eventually sentenced to paying compensation. Nükhet Duru (born 19 May 1954) is a Turkish singer. She started singing at Florya Deniz Club in Istanbul in 1971. She released her first 45 album “Aklımda Sen Fikrimde Sen – Karadır Kaşların” in 1974. Mahmut Mazhar Alanson (born February 13, 1950) is a Turkish musician, guitarist, member of the popular Turkish pop music band MFÖ, and an actor. Early life He was born on February 13, 1950, to a family of musicians in Ankara, Turkey, where his father was the head trumpeter in the State Philharmonic Orchestra. He continued Kadıköy Anadolu Lisesi which is also commonly known as Kadıköy Maarif College for his high school education in Istanbul following his father's death. Orhan Boran (30 June 1928 – 26 May 2012) was a Turkish radio and TV host and actor. He was also widely known for his laudable usage of the Turkish language. Early life Boran was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1928 as the son of Hikmet Boran, a graduate of the medical college. At the age of ten, Orhan enrolled at the famed Galatasaray High School, where he was a boarder even on weekends.
