Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts (ASUCA; az, Azərbaycan Dövlət Mədəniyyət və İncəsənət Universiteti) was founded in 1923 on the basis of the Baku Theatrical College. It is Azerbaijan's main state-funded institution of higher education in performing arts. Background Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts upon its establishment in 1923, operated under the name of Theatrical Institute. The first admitted students were educated in the fields of theatrical performance, acting and filmmaking. In 1954, the Theatrical Institute was named after the famous actor Mirzaagha Aliyev. Since 1959, the school has also trained specialists in Cultural Education and, since 1963, in Applied Decorative Arts. In 1968, the Theatrical Institute was renamed into Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts. Alakbar Huseynov
Alakbar Huseynov ( az, Ələkbər Hüseynov; July 7, 1961 – August 2, 2007) was an Azerbaijani film, television and theater actor; a puppeteer; comedian; and theater director. He was the former head director of the Baku Puppet Theatre, and was a Honored Artist of Azerbaijan (2000). Huseynov was famous for his comedy roles, but also was the host of the children's television show, ''Each of Us is a Flower''. Career Huseynov was born in Baku, Azerbaijan. He graduated from the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts in 1982. He started his career in Shaki State Drama Theater. Since 1988 he is an actor of Baku Puppet Theatre; and from 2006 until 2007 he was the director of this theater. In 1994, Huseynov was a laureate of the Humay Award. Ulduz Rafili-Aliyeva
Ulduz Saleh gizi Rafili-Aliyeva (15 December 1922, Ganja, Goranboy region – 2006, Baku) was an Azerbaijani and Soviet theater director, professor, Honored Art Worker of the Azerbaijan SSR (1964). She was the first Azerbaijani women to become a professional theater director. Early life and education Ulduz Rafili was born on 15 December 1922 in Ganja. Her father died before she was born and her mother married for the second time. When her mother died in 1935 Rafili started living with her older sister in Moscow. In 1938, she graduated from Industrial College in Moscow. Later she continued studies in Moscow. Hasan Agamammad oglu Mammadov (; 22 November 1938 – 26 August 2003) was a theater and cinema actor of Azerbaijan, People's Artist of Azerbaijan (1982) received USSR and Azerbaijan State Awards. Life Hasan Mammadov was born on November 22, 1938, in the Salyan district of Azerbaijan. Arif Haji oglu Babayev ( az, Arif Hacı oğlu Babayev) was an Azerbaijani film director and Honorary Art Worker of the Azerbaijan SSR (1964). Biography Arif Babayev was born on September 20, 1928, in Baku. The Babayevs family lived on Qala Street, in Ichari Shahar. Aa a child, Arif attended theatrical circles. Arif Aziz (or: Ариф Азиз; * 1943 in Baku; with full name: Aziz Arif Mokhubali / Азиз Ариф Мохубали) is an artist from Azerbaijan, living and teaching in its capital, Baku. He is one of Azerbaijan's internationally known contemporary artists and serves as his country's Ambassador for Peace, People’s Artist of Azerbaijan Republic and Professor at Azerbaijani State University of Art and Culture.
