Azerbaijan International Footballers
The Azerbaijan national football team has represented Azerbaijan in international association football since 1992, after the country declared independence following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Prior to this, Azerbaijani players had represented the Soviet Union national football team. Azerbaijan played their first official international match on 17 September 1992 in a friendly against neighbouring country Georgia which ended in a 6–3 defeat for Azerbaijan. They are governed by the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) and compete as a member of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), which encompasses the countries of Europe and Israel, after becoming members in 1994, also joining FIFA the same year. Cap (sport)
In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps. Iran National Under-23 Football Team
Iran national under-23 football team, also known as Iran U-23 or Iran Olympic Team; represents Iran in international football competitions in Olympic Games, Asian Games and AFC U-22 Asian Cup, as well as any other under-23 international football tournaments. It is controlled by the Iran Football Federation. The First XI (or, less commonly, First 11) are the eleven primary players in an organisation's leading team, particularly a football or cricket team. A player who is considered a core part of the starting line-up in a First XI team is often the most proficient in his/her particular position; for example, a football club's leading goal-scorer will almost always be selected due to their ability and the contribution he/she makes to the team. 'First eleven' is a reference to the fact that they are the first eleven players selected to play for the team—many sports state that clubs must have squads of no fewer than x number of players, and this number is often higher than 11. Tarlan Ahmadov ( az, Tərlan Musa oğlu Əhmədov, born 17 November 1971) is a retired Azerbaijani international football defender who was captain of the national team. Gurban Osman oghlu Gurbanov ( az, Qurban Osman oğlu Qurbanov; born 13 April 1972) is an Azerbaijani football manager and former player who manages FK Qarabagh. He played as a forward. Starting out with local club Kur in 1988, Gurbanov had a decorated 18-year career. He scored 178 goals in 399 league matches. With 14 goals in 68 matches, he is also the Azerbaijan national team's all-time leading goalscorer in international matches. From 2017 to 2018 he was the manager of the Azerbaijan national team.
