Azerbaijan Chess Federation
The Azerbaijan Chess Federation ( az, Azərbaycan Şahmat Federasiyası, ''AŞF'') is the governing chess organization in Azerbaijan and is affiliated to the World Chess Federation FIDE. The Azerbaijan Chess Federation was founded in 1920 when Azerbaijan became a member of the Soviet Union as the Azerbaijan SSR the same year, and was reorganized in 1992, after Azerbaijan attained its independence with the dissolution of the Soviet Union, and became a member of FIDE the same year. Its headquarters are in Baku. Elman Rustamov was the President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation since 2007. Baku
Baku (, ; az, Bakı ) is the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan, as well as the largest city on the Caspian Sea and of the Caucasus region. Nicat Məmmədov
Nidjat Mamedov ( az, Nicat Məmmədov; born 2 April 1985) is an Azerbaijani chess player. He was awarded the title Grandmaster by FIDE in 2006. Career He won the U14 section of European Youth Chess Championships in 1999. In 2007 Mamedov tied for first place with Mircea Pârligras in the 11th Open International Bavarian Championship in Bad Wiessee winning the tournament on tiebreak. He tied for first with Vadim Malakhatko and Valeriy Neverov in the 2007/08 Hastings International Chess Congress. In 2008 he tied for 4–8th with Tamaz Gelashvili, Anton Filippov, Constantin Lupulescu and Alexander Zubarev in the Romgaz Open tournament in Bucharest. In 2010 in Baku he got second place at the Azerbaijani Chess Championship. Mamedov won the Azerbaijani championship in 2011. In June 2013, he won the Teplice Open in Czech Republic. Teimour Radjabov
Teimour Boris oghlu Radjabov (also spelled Teymur Rajabov; az, Teymur Boris oğlu Rəcəbov, ; born 12 March 1987) is an Azerbaijani chess grandmaster, ranked number 18 in the world A former child prodigy, he earned the title of Grandmaster in March 2001 at the age of 14, making him the second youngest grandmaster in history at the time. In 2003, Radjabov gained international attention after beating the then world No. 1 Garry Kasparov in the Linares tournament, followed by victories over former world champions Viswanathan Anand and Ruslan Ponomariov all in the same year. Radjabov continued his progress over the years to become an elite chess player. In November 2012, he achieved his peak rating of 2793 and was ranked as number 4 in the world. Aydın Hüseynov
Aidyn Guseinov ( az, Aydın Hüseynov), (31 August 1957 – 30 October 2003) was a chess player from Azerbaijan. He became a FIDE International Master in 1996 and a Grandmaster in 1998. Biography He started attending chess classes in the «Burevestnik» club, particularly he was the part of GM Vladimir Bagirov group. Besides that for several month, he was attending group lessons of GM Vladimir Makogonov. Besides that period, over the whole of his career, Aidyn Guseinov never had a chess coach. Master of Sports from 1978, International Master from 1995, International Grandmaster from 1998 (3rd GM in the history of Azerbaijan). In 1991-1996 worked as a coach for Qatar Chess Federation. Cemil Aghamaliyev ( az, Cəmil Ağamalıyev), Turkish spelling Cemil Ağamaliyev, (born 31 August 1974) is an Azerbaijani chess Grandmaster, now resident of Turkey. He played for Azerbaijan in the World Youth U26 Team Chess Championship of 1993. In 2005, he finished fifth in the 2nd Kish GM tournament in Iran. In 2014 he transferred to Turkey, where he now spells his name as Cemil Aghamaliyev. Elmar Məhərrəmov
Elmar Magerramov ( az, Elmar Məhərrəmov; russian: Эльмар Магеррамов; born April 10, 1958 in Baku, Azerbaijan) is an international chess Grandmaster. In 1991, he shared first place in the last USSR Chess Championship held, with Artashes Minasian, losing the title on tiebreaks. In 1992, Magerramov became the first chess Grandmaster in the history of Azerbaijan. He has played with Kasparov several training matches and tournament games with an overall score of + 4 - 8 = 7. Along with his playing career, Elmar had an extensive coaching career as well. Namig Guliyev ( az, Namiq Quliyev; born 13 February 1974) is an Azerbaijani chess player. He holds the title of Grandmaster, which FIDE awarded him in 2005. Career In 2003 Guliyev came in first at Bischwiller. In 2005, he tied for 1st–4th places with Oleg Korneev, Andrei Sokolov and Azer Mirzoev at Béthune.
