Azerbaijan At The 2012 Summer Olympics
Azerbaijan competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's fifth consecutive appearance at the Olympics in the post-Soviet era. The National Olympic Committee of the Azerbaijani Republic sent the nation's largest delegation to the Games. A total of 53 athletes, 39 men and 14 women, competed in 15 sports. There was only a single competitor in road cycling, equestrian show jumping, fencing, and shooting. The Azerbaijani athletes also included their only defending champion, judoka Elnur Mammadli, who became the nation's flag bearer at the opening ceremony. Azerbaijan left London with a total of 10 medals (2 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze), which doubled the nation's overall medal count at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. The Men's 56 kilograms weightlifting event at the 2012 Summer Olympics was held in ExCeL London on 29 July. Summary Total score was the sum of the lifter's best result in each of the snatch (weightlifting), snatch and the clean and jerk, with three lifts allowed for each lift. Valentin Hristov (weightlifter, Born 1994)
Valentin Hristov ( bg, Валентин Христов, az, Valentin Xristov, born 30 March 1994) is a Bulgarian naturalized Azerbaijani weightlifter. He was initially awarded and subsequently stripped of a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, which would have been Azerbaijan's first-ever Olympic medal in this discipline. Hristov's personal trainer is Zlatan Vanev. He has been competing for Azerbaijan since 2011. Doping As a result of a positive drug test for Dehydromethyltestosterone (turinabol), he was disqualified from the 2013 European Championships and had received a two-year ban starting from the 9th of April 2013 till the 9th of April 2015. Mahommedrasul Majidov ( az, Məhəmmədrəsul Məcidov) (born 27 September 1986) is an Azerbaijani professional boxer. As an amateur he won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics and gold at the 2011, 2013 and 2017 World Championships, all in the super heavyweight division.
