Az Zubair Field
The Az Zubair Field ( ar, حقل الزبير), also known as ''Az-Zubayr'', is an oil field located in southern Iraq, west of Basrah. It is one of the largest fields in the world and was discovered by the Basrah Petroleum Company, an associate of the Iraq Petroleum Company, in 1949. It has of proven reserves and currently produces but in the next years, under the field's expansion programme, production is expected to reach a plateau level of . Basra Oil Company (BOC) is a national Iraqi company responsible for the oil in the south of Iraq. It is situated in Basra. A petroleum reservoir or oil and gas reservoir is a subsurface accumulation of hydrocarbons contained in porous or fractured rock formations. Such reservoirs form when kerogen (ancient plant matter) is created in surrounding rock by the presence of high heat and pressure in the Earth's crust.
