Avangard Stadium (Vyborg)
Avangard Stadium (russian: Cтадион Авангард) is a multi-purpose stadium in Vyborg, Leningrad Oblast, Russia. It was completed in 1933 by the design of the Finnish architect Uno Ullberg. History Avangard Stadium was opened in 1933 as ''Viipurin keskusurheilukenttä'', the ″Vyborg Central Sports Stadium″, when Vyborg was a part of Finland. The stadium had a main stand with 5,500 seats, and a standing section for more than 10,000 spectators. It was considered as the most modern sports stadium in Finland. Vyborg stadium was the home ground of the football club Sudet, and hosted the 1937 Finnish Championships in Athletics. Vyborg
Vyborg (; rus, Вы́борг, links=1, r=Výborg, p=ˈvɨbərk; fi, Viipuri ; sv, Viborg ; german: Wiborg ) is a town in, and the administrative center of, Vyborgsky District in Leningrad Oblast, Russia. It lies on the Karelian Isthmus near the head of the Vyborg Bay, to the northwest of St. Petersburg, east of the Finnish capital Helsinki, and south of Russia's border with Finland, where the Saimaa Canal enters the Gulf of Finland. The 1940 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XII Olympiad, were originally scheduled to be held from September 21 to October 6, 1940, in Tokyo City, Empire of Japan. They were rescheduled for Helsinki, Finland, to be held from July 20 to August 4, 1940, due to the 1937 Japanese invasion of China, but were cancelled because of World War II. Sudet
Sudet (''"Wolves"'' in English) is a sports club from Kouvola, Finland, playing bandy and association football. The club was formed in 1912 and was based firstly in Viipuri (Vyborg), then in Helsinki, before finally moving to Kouvola. Sudet formerly played in the Bandyliiga, the top bandy league in Finland, and has become Finnish champions many times. As of 2014, the club is the reigning national champion in women's bandy.
