Autokoritehdas
O/Y Autokoritehdas was a bus coach and lorry cabin builder which operated in Helsinki, Finland in 1923–1933. The main founder of the company was Finnish American Urho Hammer, who returned to his native country to start automotive industry. Autokoritehdas struggled in financially difficult circumstances and therefore it put together its activities with its competitor and neighbour O.Y. Autoteollisuus – A.B. Bilindustri creating O/Y Suomen Autoteollisuus A/B in 1931. Foundation The company founder was Urho Hammer, who had got automotive education and gained experience in coachbuilding in Michigan, USA in the 1910s. He returned to Finland in 1921, after which he presumably run some kind of coachbuilding activity before setting up the company Autokoritehdas, "automobile coach factory", in 1923 together with Kalle Kustaa Luoto and Kusti Jalo Hagelin. O.Y. Autoteollisuus – A.B. Bilindustri was a bus coach and lorry cabin builder which operated in Helsinki, Finland in 1928–1932. The company was founded by Mauritz Packalén and it built coaches and cabins mainly on Chevrolet and G.M.C. chassis. After falling into financial problems, the funding banks forced the company to put together its operations with the neighbouring competitor O/Y Autokoritehdas; this led to foundation of O/Y Suomen Autoteollisuus A/B. Background Mauritz Packalén, a Helsinki businessman who had gained experience in automobile business, founded together with Gustaf Wrede, Birger Sourander and Birger Holmström a company called O.Y. Sisu Auto is a truck manufacturer based in Raseborg, Finland. Its name comes from the Finnish word ''sisu'' meaning guts, grit and determination. Lars Wilhelm Åberg
Lars Wilhelm Åberg (19 December 1879 – 21 January 1942) was a Finnish engineer and businessman. Most notably he was the General Manager of Wärtsilä and co-founder of Suomen Autoteollisuus (SAT). Early years Lars Wilhelm Åberg was born in Hausjärvi to Senior Master Builder, Depot Manager Lars Erik Åberg and Mathilda Maria née Rosvall. He graduated in 1898 in Swedish speaking Helsingfors reallyceum in Helsinki, after which he studied engineering in Helsinki Polytechnical Institute. He graduated in 1902 after which he studied for one year in Dresden. Career After his graduation Åberg worked for a number of companies. He became the manager of Helsinki City Electricity Works where he worked until 1918, when he was appointed General Manager of Wärtsilä iron works. A coachbuilder or body-maker is someone who manufactures bodies for passenger-carrying vehicles.Construction has always been a skilled trade requiring a relatively lightweight product with sufficient strength. The markka ( fi, markka; sv, mark; sign: Mk; ISO code: FIM, typically known outside Finland as the Finnish mark) was the currency of Finland from 1860 until 28 February 2002, when it ceased to be legal tender. The mark was divided into 100 pennies ( fi, penni; sv, penni), abbreviated as "p". At the point of conversion, the rate was fixed at €1 = Mk 5.94573. The mark was replaced by the euro (€), which had been introduced, in cash form, on 1 January 2002. This was after a transitional period of three years, when the euro was the official currency but only existed as "book money" outside of the monetary base.
