Australian Services Cricket Team In Ceylon And India In 1945–46
The Australian Services cricket team which had played in England in 1945 went home via India and Ceylon, playing further first-class matches in both countries. The Services team was captained by Lindsay Hassett and included other notable players in Keith Miller and Cec Pepper. The team arrived in India during October and played eight matches in India. They played a Prince's XI, four zone teams and three matches against an Indian XI. These three games were played, respectively, at Brabourne Stadium in Bombay; Eden Gardens in Calcutta; and M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Madras. The first two were drawn and the Indian XI won the third by 6 wickets. The Services team moved on to Ceylon in December and played onfirst-class matchversus Ceylon at the Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu Stadium in Colombo. Australian Services Cricket Team
The Australian Services XI was a cricket team comprising solely military service personnel during World War II. They became active in May 1945 after the defeat of Nazi Germany. The team played matches against English cricket sides of both military and civilian origins to celebrate the end of the war. These matches were aimed at increasing morale in the war-ravaged English cities and as a means of reviving cricket after the conclusion of fighting. Ramachandra Guha
Ramachandra "Ram" Guha (born 29 April 1958) is an Indian historian, environmentalist, writer and public intellectual whose research interests include social, political, contemporary, environmental and cricket history, and the field of economics. He is an important authority on the history of modern India. For the years 2011–12, he held a visiting position at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), occupying the Philippe Roman Chair in History and International Affairs. Guha was a visiting professor at the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru. Mihir Bose (born 12 January 1947) is a British Indian journalist and author. He writes a weekly "Big Sports Interview" for the ''London Evening Standard'', and also writes and broadcasts on sport and social and historical issues for several outlets including the BBC, the ''Financial Times'' and ''Sunday Times''. He was the BBC Sports Editor until 4 August 2009.
