Australia competed at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, from 9 to 25 February 2018, with 50 competitors in 10 sports. They won three medals in total, two silver and one bronze, ranking 23rd in the medal table. Medalists Competitors The following is the list of number of competitors participating at the Games per sport/discipline. A team of 45 athletes (including Russell Henshaw and Belle Brockhoff, subject to medical clearance) was announced by the Australian Olympic Committee on 25 January 2018. A further five athletes were added on 26 January 2018 after the reallocation of quota spots was finalised. Rohan Chapman-Davies was added to the team on 29 January after Russia handed back their men's quota place in mogul skiing. The flag of Australia, also known as the Australian Blue Ensign, is based on the British Blue Ensign—a blue field with the Union Jack in the upper hoist quarter—augmented with a large white seven-pointed star (the Commonwealth Star) and a representation of the Southern Cross constellation, made up of five white stars (one small five-pointed star and four, larger, seven-pointed stars). Harry Laidlaw (born 1 March 1996 in Melbourne, Australia) is an alpine skier who will compete for Australia at the 2018 Winter Olympics in the alpine skiing events. Career Laidlaw competed for Australia at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics in the alpine skiing and competed in four events with his only completed result being 17th in the slalom event. The men's slalom competition of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics was held on 22 February 2018 at the Yongpyong Alpine Centre at the Alpensia Sports Park in PyeongChang. Qualification Up to a total of 320 alpine skiers qualified across all eleven events. Athletes qualified for this event by having met the A qualification standard, which meant having 140 or less FIS Points and being ranked in the top 500 in the Olympic FIS points list or meeting the B standard, which meant 140 or less FIS points. Countries not meeting the A standard were allowed to enter a maximum of one B standard athlete per gender. The Points list takes into average the best results of athletes per discipline during the qualification period (1 July 2016 to 21 January 2018). Speed skating at the Winter Olympics, Speed skating at the 2018 Winter Olympics was held at the Gangneung Oval in Gangneung, South Korea between 10 and 24 February 2018. Qualification A total quota of 180 athletes were allowed to compete at the Games (maximum 100 men and 80 women). Countries were assigned quotas based on the results of the entire 2017–18 ISU Speed Skating World Cup in the autumn of 2017. Figure skating at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games was held at the Gangneung Ice Arena in Gangneung, South Korea. The five events took place between 9 and 23 February 2018. Qualification A total of 148 quota spots were available to athletes to compete at the games. Each NOC could enter a maximum of 18 athletes, with a maximum of nine men and nine women. An additional six quota spots were made available for the team event. A further ten team trophy quotas (two in each discipline) were distributed to countries who qualified for the team event but not the discipline itself.
