Luge At The 2018 Winter Olympics
Luge at the 2018 Winter Olympics was held at the Alpensia Sliding Centre near Pyeongchang, South Korea. A total of four luge events were held, between 10 and 15 February 2018. Qualification A maximum of 110 athletes were allowed to compete at the Games. Countries were assigned quotas using the world rankings of results from 1 November 2017 to 31 December 2017. Alpensia Sliding Centre
The Olympic Sliding Centre (올림픽 슬라이딩 센터) is a bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track that is located in Daegwallyeong, Pyeongchang, South Korea. The centre is located between the Alpensia and Yongpyong Resort. The venue is one of only two operating sliding facilities in Asia, along with the Spiral in Japan. It was renamed from Alpensia Sliding Centre to Olympic Sliding Centre in June 2017. Natalie Geisenberger (; born 5 February 1988) is a German luger. Widely regarded as one of the greatest lugers of all time, she is a nine-time World champion and six-time Olympic champion. Career She became Olympic Champion in the women's singles event and in the team relay at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and won a bronze medal in the women's singles event at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Madeleine Egle
Madeleine Egle (born 21 August 1998) is an Austrian luger. She won bronze at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics and in 2018 another bronze medal at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang. Career Egle turned pro in 2015 at the age of 16. She debuted at the FIL World Luge Championships during the 2015 FIL World Luge Championships. A year later she won her first career medal in the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. She made her Olympics debut at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. Samuel "Sam" Edney (born June 29, 1984) is a retired Canadian luger who has competed since 2000. Competing in four Winter Olympics. Career Early start and Olympic debut Edney got into the sport at the age of 14 and began competing at the 2000 Canadian Junior Championship in Calgary. In 2004, Edney would return to Calgary to win second place in doubles at the Junior World Cup Champs. In 2006, he made his Olympic debut in Turin, finishing nineteenth overall.
