"Australia (Whore of the World)" is a climate change protest song written by singer-songwriter John Gordon and released in late 2010. The song laments Australia's mining culture – especially coal mining in Australia and coal exports – likening the country to a 'mining whore'. John Joseph Gordon (born 25 December 1963) is a songwriter from Queensland, Australia. In late 2010, he released the controversial climate change protest song Australia (Whore of the world) – which lambasts Australia's continuing coal exports, and open slather approach to mining in general. Coal is mined in every state of Australia. The largest black coal resources occur in Queensland and New South Wales. Midnight Oil (known informally as "The Oils") are an Australian rock band composed of Peter Garrett (vocals, harmonica), Rob Hirst (drums), Jim Moginie (guitar, keyboard) and Martin Rotsey (guitar). "Blue Sky Mine" is a song by Australian rock band Midnight Oil, released in February 1990 as the first single from their seventh studio album, '' Blue Sky Mining'' (1990). The song was inspired by the experiences of workers at the Wittenoom asbestos mines who contracted various asbestos-related diseases. The "blue" refers to blue asbestos, and the "sugar refining company" refers to the Colonial Sugar Refining Company Ltd, the owner of the mines. Darling Downs
The Darling Downs is a farming region on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range in southern Queensland, Australia. The Downs are to the west of South East Queensland and are one of the major regions of Queensland. The name was generally applied to an area approximating to that of the Condamine River catchment upstream of Condamine township but is now applied to a wider region comprising the Southern Downs, Western Downs, Toowoomba and Goondiwindi local authority areas. Ngaanyatjarra
The Ngaanyatjarra, also known (along with the Pini) as the Nana, are an Indigenous Australian cultural group of Western Australia. They are located in the Goldfields-Esperance region, as well as Northern Territory. Language Ngaanyatjarra is a Western Desert language belonging to the Wati branch of the Pama-Nyungan languages. ''Ngaanya'' literally means "this" (that is, the demonstrative pronoun) and ''-tjarra'' means "with/having" (the comitative suffix); the compound term means "those that use 'ngaanya' to say 'this'".
