Aurora Society
Aurora Society was a secret society and a national Finnish literary society at the Royal Academy of Turku from 1770 to 1779. The Society consisted of many prominent members of the Finnish cultural sphere and had as its focal points poetry, Finnish history, geography and the research of language and economy. The Society published Finland's first newspaper, ''Åbo Tidningar (Tidningar Utgifne Af et Sällskap i Åbo)'', between the years 1771 to 1778, and 1782 to 1785. Furthermore, the first public orchestra concerts in Finland were also organized by the Aurora Society. Matthias Calonius
Matthias Calonius (January 7, 1738 – September 13, 1817) was Finland's most renowned jurist. Born in Saarijärvi as a pastor's son, he studied at the Royal Academy of Turku. He went on to become a lecturer and then (in 1773) full professor at the Faculty of Law there, despite being too poor and lacking in family connections to ever obtain an academic title. He was also a member of the Supreme Court of Sweden in Stockholm and, after the Finnish War and Diet of Porvoo, ''procurator'' (chancellor of justice) with the Senate of the Grand Duchy of Finland. Calonius's influence is mainly due to his lectures on civil law, handed down among students in the 19th century and first published in 1908 as ''Praelectiones in Jurisprudentiam Civilem''. Characteristically for his period, he was an advocate of natural law as a transportive justification of contemporary law. Secrecy is the practice of hiding information from certain individuals or groups who do not have the "need to know", perhaps while sharing it with other individuals. Abraham Niclas (Clewberg) Edelcrantz (28 July 1754 – 15 March 1821) was a Finnish born Swedish poet and inventor. He was a member of the Swedish Academy, chair 2, from 1786 to 1821. Johan Lilius
Johan Lilius (1724–1803) was a Finnish justice of the ''Hovrätt'' in Åbo, at a time when this court was part of the judicial system of Sweden, and a founding member of the Aurora Society. Henrik Gabriel Porthan
Henrik Gabriel Porthan (1739 in Viitasaari – 1804 in Turku) was a professor and rector at the Royal Academy of Turku. He was a scholar sometimes known as ''The Father of Finnish History''. Biography He was born at Viitasaari in Tavastland, Finland. Parents were Sigfrid Porthan and Kristina Juslenius. His father was a vicar who became mentally ill in 1744. He was raised by his uncle Gustaf Juslenius (1702-1774) who was the vicar of Kronoby in the county of Ostrobothnia. In 1754, at the age of 15, Porthan entered the Royal Academy of Turku (now University of Helsinki). He was a student of professor Daniel Juslenius (1676–1752) who later served at Bishop of the Diocese of Borgå. Porthan was awarded his Master of Philosophy in 1760.
