Aurora is an historical district in the city of Turin, Italy. This neighborhood is divided into wards, which are distinctive one from another. Turin ( , Piedmontese language, Piedmontese: ; it, Torino ) is a city and an important business and cultural centre in Northern Italy. Valdocco (Turin)
Valdocco (Valdòc in Piedmontese) is a neighborhood of the city of Turin, located in the urban district Aurora. It is bordered by Corso Regina Margherita, Via Cigna, the river Dora and the railway. The name Valdocco comes from the Latin ''vallis occisorum'' (Valley of the Slain) since several death sentences were carried out on this site. Valdocco is also known for housing one of the main centers of the Congregation of the Salesians. Giovanni Bosco, who was canonized as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church, used to visit the Pinardi's canopy in this area. From here he started his activities in favour of young people from the neighborhood. Basilica Of Our Lady Help Of Christians, Turin
The Basilica of Our Lady Help of Christians ( it, Basilica di Santa Maria Ausiliatrice) is a church in Turin, northern Italy. Originally part of the home for poor boys founded by John Bosco, it now contains the remains of Don Bosco, and 6,000 relics of other saints. History Giovanni Bosco commissioned the construction of the Basilica of Our Lady Help of Christians in order to coordinate all activities related to the Salesians in the Valdocco suburb. The church was designed by Antonio Spezia, who drew inspiration from the facade of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice. It was built in 1865–1868 by Carlo Buzzetti (one of the first boys of the Oratory). The first stone was laid on 27 April 1865, in the presence of Prince Amedeo di Savoia. The church was consecrated in 1868. The basilica enshrines an image of the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title Mary Help of Christians. Pope Leo XIII granted a Canonical coronation to the painted image on 13 February 1903. Santuario Della Consolata
The Santuario della Madonna Consolata or, in its full name, the Church of the Virgin of the Consolation is a Marian sanctuary and minor basilica in central Turin, Piedmont, Italy. Colloquially, the sanctuary is known as ''La Consolata''. It is located on the intersection of Via Consolata and Via Carlo Ignazio Giulio. The shrine is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of Our Lady of Consolation. Pope Pius X granted a decree of Pontifical coronation towards the venerated Marian image on 18 June 1904. The same Pontiff raised the shrine to the status of Basilica minor by Papal decree on 7 April 1906. History The Benedictine Order were the first monastic order to settle in this location. A church at the site, probably dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, stood adjacent to the ancient Roman walls of the city.
