Augustus A. Beekman
Augustus Anthony Beekman (March 28, 1923 – November 29, 2008) was the 23rd New York City Fire Commissioner. Biography He was born on March 28, 1923, at Harlem Hospital in New York City and grew up in the Catholic Church-run orphanage, Little Flower Home, in Wading River, New York and was appointed the 23rd Fire Commissioner of the City of New York by Mayor Edward I. Koch Edward Irving Koch ( ; December 12, 1924February 1, 2013) was an American politician, lawyer, political commentator, film critic, and television personality. He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1969 to 1977 and was mayo ... on January 17, 1978, and served in that position until his resignation on November 5, 1980. Harlem Hospital
Harlem Hospital Center, branded as NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, is a 272-bed, public teaching hospital affiliated with Columbia University. It is located at 506 Lenox Avenue in Harlem, Manhattan, New York City and was founded in 1887. The hospital was established to provide healthcare to the citizens of the neighborhood. Initially, the hospital served as a holding area for patients to be transferred to Randalls and Wards Islands and Bellevue Hospital. With the wave of the African Americans who moved to New York after World War I, the hospital soon outgrew its initial building. After acquiring land, a new building opened on April 13, 1907. Wading River is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Suffolk County, New York, United States, on the North Shore of Long Island. As of the 2010 census, the CDP population was 7,719. It is adjacent to Shoreham and shares a school district. Most of Wading River lies within the Town of Riverhead, but a small portion is in the Town of Brookhaven.
