August Schneider
Gerhard August Schneider (6 January 1842 – 14 January 1873) was a Norwegian artist and illustrator of folk tales. Biography (Gerhard) August Schneider was born in Flekkefjord in the county of Vest-Agder, Norway. He was educated from Stavanger Cathedral School in 1860. The family's career choice for him was to study medicine at the University of Christiania (Oslo), but by making illustrations for weekly magazines, he spent more time on art than on the medical program at the University. After his father died he interrupted and ended his medicine studies, and through a competition in 1867, he won a free scholarship at Johan Fredrik Eckersberg’s School of Art in Christiania. With a grant from Schäffer's endowment August Schneider continued his art studies at the Academy in Copenhagen, as a pupil of Frederik Vermehren from 1868 to 1870, and from 1870 until his death at age 31 the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium. Vikingen (magazine)
''Vikingen'' (meaning ''The Viking'' in English) is a former Norwegian satirical magazine, published from 1862 to 1947. Among the contributors were the satirical illustrators Olaf Krohn, Andreas Bloch, Gustav Lærum and Olaf Gulbransson. History and profile The weekly comic magazine ''Vikingen'' was established by printer Henning Tønsberg in Kristiania in 1862. The first issue was published on 4 October 1862. Johan Ludvig Vibe, Johan Schønheyder and Olaf Skavlan were also instrumental in the establishment of the magazine and they worked as editors. In the beginning the magazine had only 11 subscribers, but the magazine attracted some attention and it soon became an important, if not exactly serious, organ of public debate, humour and satire. is a municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Lister. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Flekkefjord. Alfred Sinding-Larsen
Nils Ulrik Alfred Sinding-Larsen (5 June 1839 – 28 January 1911) was a Norwegian civil servant, teacher at the Military Academy, journalist and writer. Personal life He was born in Fredrikstad as a son of physician Ole Peter Larsen (1808–1876) and Frederikke Hedevig Sinding (1815–1891). He took the name Sinding-Larsen in 1881. He was a nephew of mining engineer Matthias Wilhelm Sinding, and a first cousin of the three siblings Christian, Otto and Stephan Sinding and another three siblings Ernst Anton Henrik Sinding, Elisabeth Sinding and Gustav Adolf Sinding. In June 1865 in Arendal he married Elisabeth Lange (1842–1887). She was a sister of Balthazar Lange. Jørgen Engebretsen Moe (22 April 1813–27 March 1882) was a Norwegian folklorist, bishop, poet, and author. He is best known for the ''Norske Folkeeventyr'', a collection of Norwegian folk tales which he edited in collaboration with Peter Christen Asbjørnsen. He also served as the Bishop of the Diocese of Kristianssand from 1874 until his death in 1882.
