Aud Hvammen
Aud Hvammen (born 31 May 1943) is a Norwegian alpine skier. She was born in Geilo, and is the sister of Margit Hvammen. She is married to Peder Lunde, and mother of Jeanette Lunde. Geilo
is a centre in the municipality of Hol in Viken county, Norway. Geilo is primarily a ski resort town, with around 2,500 inhabitants. It is situated in the valley of Hallingdal, 250 km from Oslo and 260 km from Bergen. The Bergen Line facilitated Geilo's development as the first skiing resort in the country, and it is still one of the largest. It is also known for having some of the most luxurious and expensive holiday cabins in Norway. The center of the town lies at 800 meters above sea level, and its highest point is 1178 meters above sea level. Etymology The ski resort is named after the old farm Gjeilo. The name is the dative plural of ''geil'' f 'fenced road for cattle'. Access The Bergen Line (''Bergensbanen''), the main rail line between Oslo and Bergen, runs right through the centre of town. Geilo Idrettslag is a multi-sports club from Geilo, Norway. Established on 2 December 1917 as ''Gjeilo SK'', it changed its name to ''Gjeilo IL'' on 19 May 1918 and later to ''Geilo IL''. Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Whether for recreation or for sport, it is typically practiced at ski resorts, which provide such services as ski lifts, artificial snow making, snow grooming, restaurants, and ski patrol. "Off-piste" skiers—those skiing outside ski area boundaries—may employ snowmobiles, helicopters or snowcats to deliver them to the top of a slope. Margit Hvammen (26 September 1932 – 10 May 2010) was a Norwegian alpine skier. Career Hvammen competed at the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo, where she placed 7th in the downhill, 18th in giant slalom, and 18th in slalom. She represented the club Geilo IL. Jeanette Lunde
Jeanette Lunde (born 28 March 1972) is a former Norwegian sportsperson who competed in alpine skiing and sailing. She competed in both the Winter and Summer Olympics, the second Norwegian woman to do so. Alpine skiing As an alpine skier she finished eleventh in the downhill discipline and 32nd in the super-G at the 1994 Winter Olympics. She also finished seventeenth in downhill at the 1993 World Championships. Her highest placing in the World Cup was a 66th place in 1993–94. She raced in the World Cup from 1992 to 1995, and finished twice among the top fifteen, with a thirteenth place from Tignes in December 1993 and a fifth place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in January 1994; both in downhill. The 1968 Winter Olympics, officially known as the X Olympic Winter Games (french: Les Xes Jeux olympiques d'hiver), were a winter multi-sport event held from 6 to 18 February 1968 in Grenoble, France. Thirty-seven countries participated. Frenchman Jean-Claude Killy won three gold medals in all the alpine skiing events. In women's figure skating, Peggy Fleming won the only United States gold medal. The games have been credited with making the Winter Olympics more popular in the United States, not least of which because of ABC's extensive coverage of Fleming and Killy, who became overnight sensations among teenage girls.
