Atrisco Heritage Academy High School (AHAHS), better known as Atrisco Heritage, is a state school, public high school in unincorporated area, unincorporated Bernalillo County, New Mexico, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, United States, with an Albuquerque, New Mexico, Albuquerque postal address. It is located on the area's West Mesa. It is a part of the Albuquerque Public Schools. The school is named after the Atrisco Land Grant, which is now owned by Westland development. Enrollment at AHAHS was expected to be 2,200 in the fall of 2011. The mascot of AHAHS is a Jaguar, chosen by the first freshman class. Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) is a school district based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Founded in 1891, APS is the largest of 89 public school districts in the state of New Mexico. Albuquerque High School is a public high school near Downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. It is a part of the Albuquerque Public Schools district. Enrollment at AHS stands at 1,741. No Child Left Behind Act
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) was a U.S. Act of Congress that reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act; it included Title I provisions applying to disadvantaged students. It supported standards-based education reform based on the premise that setting high standards and establishing measurable goals could improve individual outcomes in education. Jaguar
The jaguar (''Panthera onca'') is a large cat species and the only living member of the genus '' Panthera'' native to the Americas. Atrisco Land Grant
The Atrisco Land Grant (''merced'') of 1692 is one among many Spanish land grants in New Mexico. It is in the Atrisco Valley (''Valle de Atrisco'') south of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The grant was established during the New World expansion of the Spanish Empire, as part of the Viceroyalty of New Spain (''Nueva España''). Out of hundreds of land grants, Spain made only a few during the first 200 years of Spanish rule (1598–1821). The Atrisco land was given to individuals who intended to found a settlement. Other grants were made to individuals, or to communal groups establishing settlements, or to Pueblo peoples for communal lands that they already occupied, such as the Pueblos of Sandia to the north of Atrisco, and Isleta to the south. West Mesa
300px, View of downtown Albuquerque and the Manzano Mountains from the West Mesa The West Mesa is an elevated landmass lying west of the Rio Grande stretching from south of Albuquerque northward to Bernalillo in the U.S. state of New Mexico. The eastern edge of the West Mesa is defined by an escarpment that borders the Rio Grande floodplain. The West Mesa also serves as the easternmost extent of the Colorado Plateau in this region. The western edge of the mesa is the Rio Puerco near the Laguna Pueblo about west of Albuquerque. A large portion of the West Mesa is part of Petroglyph National Monument and is bisected by Interstate 40 and Historic Route 66.
